I’m so glad I’m reading this along with everyone and thankful for all the questions and answers here! There was quite a bit of dialogue I wasn’t able to decipher, but reading all the replies here has helped me figure most of it out.
I hope we get to hear more about why Kiyo wasn’t suited for being a maiko in future chapters, because I’m curious.
Somehow I didn’t make the connection that those were hair straighteners! That’s pretty wild; they seem to be heated on hot coals or something like that!
I was able to finish my pages today. The difficulty is spiking a lot here, I think I barely made it to the end of the chapter. Still, the art is so beautiful I’m mystified by it.

…after that conversation Kiyo had with the rice bran I’m fully on board. It’s not just how cute it was (it was very cute) - I love how she’s completely unperturbed when she’s being seen while doing it! I was like “Oh no, that’s going to be embarassing!” when I saw the face watching her, but I guess it’s just another Tuesday in Kiyo-land
I wonder if she’s just a little weird and whether that’s part of the reason why she couldn’t become a Maiko, but whatever it is, she’s precious, I’m totally here for it and can’t wait to see more of her.
I’m really happy to hear people have been enjoying so far, and that they are enjoying seeing Kiyo in her daily moments - she is so precious! And, of course, we’ll find out a little about why she couldn’t become a Maiko eventually
