This chapter has very little main plot text (compared to other chapters) but a lot of running around and a shitton of NPC conversation available. They will be different before and after certain hidden requests are completed. I strongly recommending to talking to everyone anyway.

Quick Summary of This Chapter's Optional Content

10 monster exterminations
4 towers - each has something on the roof it’s a monster, you want the items they drop
4 hidden books ( the last of which is only collectable after all hidden requests complete)
3 hidden requests
reward for having all 14 hidden books
final fish now available ← you’re on your own with this one but it’s out there.

This week = Bose & Rolent
Next week = Grancel & Zeiss
The week after = Ruan & loose ends

Side Quests and Missable Content

Bose:

  • Quest monster at tower entrance
  • Tower roof
  • Before NPC dialogue (including the village, lake inn, ハーケン門, that guy in the mist cabin, クローネ checkpoint)
  • If you’re heading that way anyway, there’s a quest monster on the クローネ road. If not we’ll circle back round to it.

Rolent:

  • Before NPC dialogue available (lots of back and forths here) (including the farm & both checkpoints, not the mine though)
  • Quest monster ミルヒ街道, middle segment north east
  • Quest monster just south of the forest entrance
  • Tower roof
  • Hidden Quest - Mine
  • After NPC dialogue available (again, everywhere has changed)
  • Hidden Book - after the wedding, go to bar and talk to セーラ

Discussion Guidelines

Everybody should feel free to post and ask questions–it’s what makes book clubs fun! But please do not post until you are familiar with Spoiler Courtesy!

Spoiler Courtesy

Please follow these rules to avoid inadvertent ネタバレ. If you’re unsure whether something should have a spoiler tag, err on the side of using one.

  1. Any potential spoiler for the current week’s reading need only be covered by a spoiler tag. Predictions and conjecture made by somebody who has not read ahead still falls into this category.
  2. Any potential spoilers for external sources need to be covered by a spoiler tag and include a label (outside of the spoiler tag) of what might be spoiled. These include but are not limited to: other book club picks, other books, games, movies, anime, etc. I recommend also tagging the severity of the spoiler (for example, I may still look at minor spoilers for something that I don’t intend to read soon).
  3. Any information from later in the book than the current week’s reading (including trigger warnings that haven’t yet manifested) needs to be hidden by spoiler tags and labeled as coming from later sections.
Instructions for Spoiler Tags

Click the cog above the text box and use either the “Hide Details” or “Blur Spoiler” options. The text which says “This text will be hidden” should be replaced with what you are wishing to write. In the case of “Hide Details”, the section in the brackets that is labelled “Summary” can be replaced with whatever you like also (i.e, [details=”Chapter 1, Pg. 1”]).

Hide Details results in the dropdown box like below:

Example

This is an example of the “Hide Details” option.

The “Blur Spoiler” option will simply blur the text it surrounds.

Posting Advice
  • When asking for help, please mention the page number, and check before posting that your question hasn’t already been asked. As the threads get longer, it becomes more convenient to use the Search function, which is located in the upper right corner of the forum. It is the magnifying glass which is near your profile picture! The best way to search is usually to type part of the sentence you are confused about, and select “in this topic”. This will show you all posts within the current thread which has that string of text.

  • Be sure to join the conversation! It’s fun, and it’s what keeps these book clubs lively! There’s no such thing as a stupid question! We are all learning here, and if the question has crossed your mind, there’s a very good chance it has crossed somebody else’s also! Asking and answering questions is a great learning opportunity for everyone involved, so never hesitate to do so!

If necessary, include an explanation of any discrepancies in the Ebook page numbers from physical page numbers. If there is an easy shortcut for some ebook versions to relate back to physical page numbers, it would be worth it to include it as a third bullet here, or if you want to use chapter page numbers instead of volume page numbers, as is the case with some manga. For example:
Example

For the Kindle version of this manga, the page numbers and the location number are always 3 apart. If you subtract 3 from the location, this will give you the accurate page number!

OR

Please use the chapter page numbers, instead of the volume page numbers. These are located in between the panels!

Around the World in Eighty Days (1956)

Well to keep it brief, posted elsewhere about my messy life, but, things have been rough and this time instead of not feeling like playing Trails, this game with its laid back tone and seemingly infinite sprawl has been comfortable to just sit and play a lot, and I’m dying to at least temporarily cut down the amount of things I’m juggling, so I’ve run significantly ahead and I’m nearly finished with the whole game. I’ll try to comment in the relevant threads though…

Feel like I sent us the wrong way because Rolent was one of the least interesting revisits for me in the end, heh. Once I settled in and got over my initial problems with them slowing everything back down, I liked seeing all of Liberl again in this post-electricity world. It’s neat having miniboss monsters everywhere making the world feel more threatening now too. I have to say there are points when JRPGs contain so much NPC and optional dialog that they overwhelm me and this game has gone orders of magnitude past that point so in that way one of the biggest series strengths isn’t quite for me, but the amount of work put into the changing NPCs is insane. Gotta respect it.

The mine hidden quest sits in the middle of the 3 of them for me as the most neutral, fine one. Providing backup for another bracer is very in character, the fights are nothing too big and the mine workers are just kinda there, but it’s a decent little self contained adventure.

As much as I didn’t initially want to reclimb the towers, I got over it and yeah those accessories go hard.

Jin/Zin just keeps getting stronger and hitting harder every time I play. Some of this is how well I’ve worked with him on the orbment side but because he doesn’t need to think about arts unlocks at all you can optimize for bonus stats or effects you want better than other characters. Mostly seems good to just make him faster and hit harder, and I have an effect on his attacks to inflict DEF down which seems to trigger quite often. He’s got infinite movement, hits by far the hardest on the physical side, his little aoe circles on one move + s-craft will hit at least a small group pretty often and he still takes like 4x the amount of hits to kill as anyone else. He’s my best party member now.

Oh, right, also I like the arts restriction stuff. Plot encroaching into combat is cool, and I don’t mind the accessory juggling to get it back. Poor Tita is absolutely wrecked by this since she can’t use much of anything if you don’t keep a generator on her. All the more reason to value Jin this chapter

What does that mean exactly? Before what? The tower monster quest?

Before the dialogue changes, which is after all hidden quests are complete.

When you say “all” do you mean all around Rolent or in the specific location? Because I think I did both things in Bose and the dialogue doesn’t seem to have updated…

All as in the three across the whole country, which is why I didn’t list the after dialogue in the optional stuff yet. Sorry for the confusion!

Week 37

Dang, it’s too bad that you won’t be playing along with us anymore but if it’s making life a little easier for you right now, you have my support <3 I bet you’d be able to blow through multiple sequels before the rest of us make it to the end of this one haha.

Not a ton to say this week because I felt like most of it was running around and fighting, but I had a good time. I caught up with some though not all of the NPCs I found in Rolent and the surrounding areas, including mist cabin guy and the dragon researcher who’d stopped by. I was a little amused that dropping in to browse quartz at a workshop gives you a whole little scene where we set up the device temporarily to use the shop.

When I saw the spoiler for the wedding I totally thought it’d be the general store owner and Kitty, I’d forgotten all about the other two lovebirds. Then again Kitty caught the bouquet and Linon is cagey about changes being made in his life soon, so maybe that one’ll be in the game epilogue.

2/4 tower monsters down. The accessories these snail guys drop are pretty sweet.

Oh yeah, also got the 駆動3 quartz! I have 駆動2 on almost everybody but I’m a little torn on whether or not I want to use this one. The stat penalties are rough!

w37

Hell yeah!

I expected the normal enemies to have been boosted, but instead they’re all pushovers. That reinforces the feeling that we’re doing padding instead of moving the story forward.

Ooh, I didn’t expect they’d go that far. That’s an interesting constraint… Although that’s going to make dealing with the quest monsters a bit of a pain by the time we reach the end of the journey…

Oh I got to rank B at the guild, which means that I got the belt that passively raise my CP. Coupled with the other gizmo that increases my CP gain, I’m starting to reach my final form.

The snails at the top of the tower are really annoying. This game abuses damage sponge bosses.

I don’t like the pacing of this section, it’s weird. I think having a sequence where you revisit previous locations as a buffer for the endgame can be fun in a JRPG, and it certainly makes sense in Trails, but why on earth are we tasked with visiting the mine and dispatching random monsters? Are we the only people still working? Yeah, sure, we’re the only ones who can use orbments but the army and bracers can still fight the old-school way, no? Why are are we running random errands instead of focusing on the main mission that seems vastly more important?

There were situations before where the game told us “the army/senior bracers/whoever are going to handle this, you’re beginner bracers so you deal with this lesser task in the meantime” and ok, fine, that makes sense. But here we’re given a really important task and we still do the “cat stuck in tree” chores.

I must say that I’m not super excited for two more weeks of this fare… Oh well, hopefully we get some good reward with the flying city after that.

It doesn’t help that this mine quest feels like complete filler. Repetitive, unchallenging and unfun. I’m also frustrated at the miners being stupid enough to not have any backup solution in case of power outage. One broken elevator and you’re stuck underground without recourse? Doesn’t seem up to code to me.

Nothing happens if we revisit the Bright residence. I expected that returning there with Joshua would trigger an exchange.

Yeah guys no emergency here, let’s just hang around the wedding of two randos, that flying city that cut the power of the entire kingdom can wait a bit.

It’s a cute vignette but is it really the best place to put it?

replies

Oh I didn’t know, hope you’ll get better. I was looking forward to your FF3 impressions but I can’t fault you for putting that on ice if you don’t feel like playing something frustrating…

For me it’s Estelle that suffers the most, she doesn’t hit as hard as the rest. Tita is actually stronger and has AoE, and since we’ve established that I’m an AoE supremacist I actually like it.

That said I’m taking the same direction as the endgame of FC: just spam S-crafts. Even there Estelle sucks the most, with Joshua and Tita having a 全体 attack (AoE master race) and Agathe a large radius (non-AoE filth need not apply).

I didn’t pay attention and I have too many in my inventory, what are they?

snail jewelry

They’re シールドオーブ and ソウルオーブ, sorted right below the 4 護符, and they raise your defense and arts defense respectively along with a decent speed and move boost. I’d bet that the next two orbs will raise attack and arts attack along with the speed and move boosts, and I want those :eyes:

I think I got everything for next week ready.

Thanks everyone, pretty soon after I posted that I totally finished this game, but I’ll try to stick around.

Tita

What I mean is, if you haven’t tested it yet, Tita literally can’t fire her gun without one of those equipped. I believe one of her S-crafts is usable because it uses a mechanical gun and otherwise IIRC she literally can’t do anything at all.

My Estelle definitely fell off compared to everyone late game too, though.

Oh, right, the game explained that last week but I forgot…

this week

Military in the garden.

I didn’t think of climbing the towers at all, if not mentioned… Haven’t visit the hut yet, because only 1 NPC. Other than that, I tried to talk to everyone, in all locations.

I still find Jin most useless. At least Estelle (and Scherazade) can cheer everyone up, once in a while, other than that, Schera is probably second useless. I am using Tita, while I can still use her. Spamming ATK a bit, but a little low on HP.

I have had trouble defeating Mine Boss. Sucking health (and recover) from hitting multiple targets. Sucking CP and EP. HP+50 bonus that heals the boss much much better than allies (just because of looong heath bar). Attack that hits everyone and can’t be cancelled out. Single target hit hard enough attack. Also, quickly respawning minions without losing a turn (tho least of the problem here). Healing arts AoE helps here, but small radius 1000 isn’t enough.

And then, wedding ceremony. I knew it must be this couple, but not sure how to trigger wedding ceremony to really start. (how to make cooking complete?)

And thennn… flower throwing :bouquet:. The bride threw the bouquet really really high, over a wall :brick:, and Citi caught it. I remembered another couple too – can’t remember names, gotta get into houses to check. Didn’t think it might continue very soon  considering what the groom were saying (and NPC dialogue before the event gave no clue to me.)

Anyway, I am glad I visited Rolent.

Actually, I tried going the other side from Bose too. It says, “Please insert Disc 1”. I gave up trying for now.

I don’t know if I did something special without noticing but I just randomly stumbled into the church and the cutscene started playing. I did it last though, after doing every other quest in Rolent.

EDIT: oh, I just read the rest of your comment, you already got that with the flower throwing. I misunderstood what you asked then.
