Home Threads 空の軌跡 // SC

This week’s stopping point is once you have an NPC following your party.

Side Quests and Missable Content

On which party members to take with you:
Your non-compulsory characters have relevant dialogue sometimes. For example, once you arrive in Grancel, Olivier and Zin both have scenes with their respective embassy guards, and Kloe has scenes with the castle guards and the ice cream seller. I’m not checking all permutations of the party for each segment of the game, and I don’t expect you to either. Choose whoever you want, just be aware you are choosing both for battle ability and for what dialogue they may bring.

Side Quests: (doing them this week)

  • エルベ周遊道の手配魔獣
  • 地下水路の手配魔獣

For the main quest: If you ask レイモンド for help, or give up, you will lose BP. Safest to not talk to him at all (unless you want to give up and move on with the plot).

Discussion Guidelines

Everybody should feel free to post and ask questions–it’s what makes book clubs fun! But please do not post until you are familiar with Spoiler Courtesy!

Spoiler Courtesy

Please follow these rules to avoid inadvertent ネタバレ. If you’re unsure whether something should have a spoiler tag, err on the side of using one.

  1. Any potential spoiler for the current week’s reading need only be covered by a spoiler tag. Predictions and conjecture made by somebody who has not read ahead still falls into this category.
  2. Any potential spoilers for external sources need to be covered by a spoiler tag and include a label (outside of the spoiler tag) of what might be spoiled. These include but are not limited to: other book club picks, other books, games, movies, anime, etc. I recommend also tagging the severity of the spoiler (for example, I may still look at minor spoilers for something that I don’t intend to read soon).
  3. Any information from later in the book than the current week’s reading (including trigger warnings that haven’t yet manifested) needs to be hidden by spoiler tags and labeled as coming from later sections.
Instructions for Spoiler Tags

Click the cog above the text box and use either the “Hide Details” or “Blur Spoiler” options. The text which says “This text will be hidden” should be replaced with what you are wishing to write. In the case of “Hide Details”, the section in the brackets that is labelled “Summary” can be replaced with whatever you like also (i.e, [details=”Chapter 1, Pg. 1”]).

Hide Details results in the dropdown box like below:

Example

This is an example of the “Hide Details” option.

The “Blur Spoiler” option will simply blur the text it surrounds.

Posting Advice
  • When asking for help, please mention the page number, and check before posting that your question hasn’t already been asked. As the threads get longer, it becomes more convenient to use the Search function, which is located in the upper right corner of the forum. It is the magnifying glass which is near your profile picture! The best way to search is usually to type part of the sentence you are confused about, and select “in this topic”. This will show you all posts within the current thread which has that string of text.

  • Be sure to join the conversation! It’s fun, and it’s what keeps these book clubs lively! There’s no such thing as a stupid question! We are all learning here, and if the question has crossed your mind, there’s a very good chance it has crossed somebody else’s also! Asking and answering questions is a great learning opportunity for everyone involved, so never hesitate to do so!

If necessary, include an explanation of any discrepancies in the Ebook page numbers from physical page numbers. If there is an easy shortcut for some ebook versions to relate back to physical page numbers, it would be worth it to include it as a third bullet here, or if you want to use chapter page numbers instead of volume page numbers, as is the case with some manga. For example:
Example

For the Kindle version of this manga, the page numbers and the location number are always 3 apart. If you subtract 3 from the location, this will give you the accurate page number!

OR

Please use the chapter page numbers, instead of the volume page numbers. These are located in between the panels!

Discussion Questions

  1. What sentence/passage gave you the most difficulty? Feel free to request some help, or if you figured it out on your own break it down for the rest of us!

  2. What was your favorite new vocab word from this week’s reading?

  3. Was there any passage that you found particularly intriguing? Did it resonate with you (either positively or negatively)? Was it surprising? Offer any insight or new perspective? Was it just beautifully written?

  4. What did you think of the conversations of the airship?

  5. Did your chosen party members have any noteworthy dialogue you want to share?

  6. How long did it take you to find レン?

Who Can Kill a Child? (1976)

I don’t recommend that movie by the way, didn’t enjoy it much.

I searched for quite a long time before giving up and checking. I didn’t search all around this guy because it’s the most dumb outcome, but maybe given how certain side quests have wrapped up I should have used that as a reason to look right under him. Here we are. Also knowing that he was a trap waiting to lower my points I sort of avoided getting too close to him. :face_with_spiral_eyes: Well, as soon as I heard it was a child, I honestly forgot how she was dressed but I figured it’d be this girl. So her parents are the techno-medieval whatever this game is equivalent of those people who drop their kids off in a Gamestop. This girl sure isn’t Dorothy, but they specifically called out in one line that the news people would be around for this event coming so I still have faith. My genuine thoughts are they’re trying a little too hard for comedy but I like this game when it’s more about bracers getting cats out of trees than it is big conspiracies so far, so besides the outcome being kind of annoying I genuinely don’t mind the hide and seek.

Backing up, Jin sure isn’t gaining many points with me with that story. This game has some shonen vibes but that’s the most by the book backstory I’ve seen. Our master saw the darkness in his heart and tried to correct him but lost in the end to the student! At least he learned the Murderfist, like he’s a Dethklok member.

I decided, given the dialog stuff and my lukewarm reaction to Tita in combat this game so far, to swap her for Kloe. I’m realizing that I missed the specific dialog referenced because I decided with everything going on I wasn’t going to re-explore the city too much in this session, but hopefully those scenes are still waiting for me next time. That said, the conversation with Dunan was interesting because of having those two along. Kloe does the “no, he has a point” thing while Estelle gets angry, but Olivier was dropping some interesting lines about how if this was back in his country Dunan would’ve been executed, and some history.

From now on my images are photos of a screen haha, sorry.

CGs this time:

I found and killed 2 poms in the sewers! Wonder if the rate is weirdly high or I got very lucky here. Side quest monsters were fun. The sewer one was pretty obnoxious with its confusion blasts and occasional instant kill minions it kept summoning but honestly at this point I kind of welcome the mean combat design. Like I’ve said, I continue to think that we’ve reached the point where our options are sufficient that I don’t find it as frustrating. I get in some awful situations but I’m managing to figure out the way through them pretty often. Despite my comments on the events this week reading slightly negative I’m kinda playing it up, haha. I had a great time. Doubly so switching to the Vita itself, it feels great there, and since the speakers were so crunchy I finally bothered to use my headphones and felt like I was getting a new appreciation for all the little details in the background sound effects in various areas and also loving the music more than ever. SC’s going great for me so far.

I learned why I can go outside on an airship. Though it looks dangerous for falling off without a life jacket or a chute.

Sewer boss is hard, and only half dungeon is accessible, another half is blocked off for now. 離宮 blocker is less so.

I also explored the harbor. There is a lost child. And a parent trying to find him, but wouldn’t let me help.

デュナン :doughnut: got some talk, and Jin got some comments in addition to Croze and Estelle. Not sure if person I don’t bring along have something to say (Olivier?), but bringing Olivier is a right choice. (Though I switch to Oliver briefly to talk at the North place near colosseum. Croze has ice-cream thingie, not sure about Tita and Schera.)

I looked for the girl everywhere, but I thought she must be under a chair somewhere. Got into レイモンド room in the end – I figured it has to be 灯台下暗し, or some other 台.

But I don’t really expect the girl to be NPC to tag along, of the week. She did have face a while ago, making me wonder about importance.

Week 15

I’m wondering how different Olivier’s scenes are for y’all who picked Agate, like the one on the airship. There’s been some ship teasing between him and Schera and there’s more of it here. I enjoy their flirty friendship. Shera fully denies that they’re together during the のぞき魔の撃退 quest but knowing this game was written for a younger crowd, there’s a part of me that expects that everybody who can pair up, will.

The bit of backstory we got on Jin was somewhat expected after the confrontation in cave, nothing surprising there. The lack of resentment against ヴァルタ for killing the teacher was a bit too heroically reasonable for me. I have to agree with Daisoujou that it doesn’t make his story much more compelling than before.

I had クローゼ in the party for the scene with デュナン and she was another one with an almost unreasonably reasonable attitude. Like yeah you could argue that being publicly seen on a regular basis is an important part of being a monarch, but she took that scolding like she deserved it. She’s a kid, it’s natural that she’d still be learning. He’s her adult family, he should’ve tried to help teach her rather than depose his aunt that he supposedly respects. It’s also bizarre that he talks about respecting queenie when he went on a rant about female leadership late in FC. Estelle had it right in telling him off.

I didn’t realize before that the horrible kid and @RebBlue’s pfp was one and the same. I knew she was evil! It took me a couple rounds around the estate before I thought to check the room with レイモンド but I found her in the end. I did talk to him once but refused help. Hoping I didn’t lose points but also wouldn’t be shocked if I did. These games can be unforgiving when it comes to the points system!

Olivier

On the airship people are just totally reshuffled. I don’t feel like Olivier has really directly interacted with Agate too much recently, early on he was doing some teasing and Agate would get mad, but yeah. For that part Agate was with Tita as he always is now (it was pretty cute), and Olivier was playing music and messing around with クローゼ, getting attacked by the bird too.

I think I’m going to fall behind because I can’t find that girl!

What an annoying week…

EDIT: and just as I say that I find her. I knew it was weird that this door was locked earlier. Metagaming wins again.

These devs really need to stop adding “investigation” sequences, they suck at it.

The moment you publicly complain about not being able to do something, you find you manage to do it. This is the way of all video games.

In contrast, in my Schera-world Tita gets very little special attention and Olivier isn’t bullied quite so much. Tita still explains what makes it possible to speak on deck but is hanging out with new big sis クローゼ. Olivier also plays music, but in the front lounge with Schera as the main audience!

Fun week!

When we were searching for the girl, I remembered that we had been searching/finding something (a key) in a large vase in this place (north east), and would have found it funny if the girl was in the same place. Too obvious of course, but the dialogue we got instead was hilarious, so, a good payoff indeed. Shera pointing out to Estelle who thought the girl might be in the vase: How the heck is she supposed to get through that narrow opening? :joy:

I’m pleased to see nobody wrote about this yet, because almost always people say the things I want to say first so I have nothing to write anymore, haha.

I understand, but I was okay with it, as it was a fight that the teacher had agreed to. He likely knew his intention to kill, too. We don’t know what happened exactly. Maybe the teacher thought that the only way to dissuade his student from pursuing the dark ways of the style was to beat him with the good side of it, even if it might kill him.
And Jin was a judge in that fight. It was agreed that he was not allowed to interfere. I think most of us would also understand it a little more if we had very seriously practiced a martial art in a dojo for 10 years (without modern conveniences, maybe assuming we had lived earlier).

I partially agree, but she did have a very good point that she doesn’t currently have the leadership skills necessary to rule. She’s way too modest, and too young or untrained in leadership. Dunan on the other hand has no problems bossing people around.
Though I’m sure クローゼ will learn that soon enough.
