Last Week Week 43
Next Week Week 45
Home Thread 空の軌跡

This week’s stopping point is when you have four people in your party.

Side Quests

Nothing this week.

Warning: Make sure you’ve bought anything you might ever want from the shops in town. You may also want to go talk to Elnan to make sure you get paid.

(can click once you’ve been through the door) Both parties share their inventory, you can unequip Joshua’s team (you’ll get a choice asking if you’re ready) of their armour and everything and Estelle’s team will be able to use it, and vice versa. Joshua’s team will need to be equipped enough to fight.

(upcoming fights (to help decide party set up)) Joshua’s team has one (standard) fight before they reunite. Estelle’s team has a couple fights and three boss battles. First against an enemy who can poison and deathblow, and is immune to petrify and deathblow. Second with an enemy where you get more BP for not killing them. Third is a fight you don’t have to win, but feel free to try if you want to (or want the BP). The enemy is immune to everything and has moves that can cause faint, confuse, mute, as well as a heal and double guard.

You will be able to save between the boss fights.

Please read the guidelines on the first page before adding any words.

Discussion Guidelines

Everybody should feel free to post and ask questions–it’s what makes book clubs fun! But please do not post until you are familiar with Spoiler Courtesy!

Spoiler Courtesy

Please follow these rules to avoid inadvertent ネタバレ. If you’re unsure whether something should have a spoiler tag, err on the side of using one.

  1. Any potential spoiler for the current week’s reading need only be covered by a spoiler tag. Predictions and conjecture made by somebody who has not read ahead still falls into this category.
  2. Any potential spoilers for external sources need to be covered by a spoiler tag and include a label (outside of the spoiler tag) of what might be spoiled. These include but are not limited to: other book club picks, other books, games, movies, anime, etc. I recommend also tagging the severity of the spoiler (for example, I may still look at minor spoilers for something that I don’t intend to read soon).
  3. Any information from later in the book than the current week’s reading (including trigger warnings that haven’t yet manifested) needs to be hidden by spoiler tags and labeled as coming from later sections.
Instructions for Spoiler Tags

Click the cog above the text box and use either the “Hide Details” or “Blur Spoiler” options. The text which says “This text will be hidden” should be replaced with what you are wishing to write. In the case of “Hide Details”, the section in the brackets that is labelled “Summary” can be replaced with whatever you like also (i.e, [details=”Chapter 1, Pg. 1”]).

Hide Details results in the dropdown box like below:

Example

This is an example of the “Hide Details” option.

The “Blur Spoiler” option will simply blur the text it surrounds.

Posting Advice
  • When asking for help, please mention the page number, and check before posting that your question hasn’t already been asked. As the threads get longer, it becomes more convenient to use the Search function, which is located in the upper right corner of the forum. It is the magnifying glass which is near your profile picture! The best way to search is usually to type part of the sentence you are confused about, and select “in this topic”. This will show you all posts within the current thread which has that string of text.

  • Be sure to join the conversation! It’s fun, and it’s what keeps these book clubs lively! There’s no such thing as a stupid question! We are all learning here, and if the question has crossed your mind, there’s a very good chance it has crossed somebody else’s also! Asking and answering questions is a great learning opportunity for everyone involved, so never hesitate to do so!

If necessary, include an explanation of any discrepancies in the Ebook page numbers from physical page numbers. If there is an easy shortcut for some ebook versions to relate back to physical page numbers, it would be worth it to include it as a third bullet here, or if you want to use chapter page numbers instead of volume page numbers, as is the case with some manga. For example:
Example

For the Kindle version of this manga, the page numbers and the location number are always 3 apart. If you subtract 3 from the location, this will give you the accurate page number!

OR

Please use the chapter page numbers, instead of the volume page numbers. These are located in between the panels!

Discussion Questions

  1. What sentence/passage gave you the most difficulty? Feel free to request some help, or if you figured it out on your own break it down for the rest of us!

  2. What was your favorite new vocab word from this week’s reading?

  3. Was there any passage that you found particularly intriguing? Did it resonate with you (either positively or negatively)? Was it surprising? Offer any insight or new perspective? Was it just beautifully written?

  4. What did you think of the scene on the other side of the door?

  5. How did your boss battles go?

  6. Who have you chosen (and why)?

I have come across 治外法権 a surprising amount. Probably already as much, if not more, than I ever have “extraterritoriality” in English. 鹵獲 is a cool word too, my first time ever seeing the first kanji.

Thanks for all the help preparing for this week.

GOTTEM. Can we rescue フィリップ next?

That third boss really hurts; I was making an effort until he just near killed everyone with that fire AOE all at once. So yeah no luck there, I’m still a low rank bracer y’know? Don’t expect too much out of me. All the same, having クローゼ and シェラ back is nice. Free arts spam and a full party heal S Break is great. シェラ is kind of middle of the road? I mean it’s hard to work around her too hard when we haven’t seen her since the beginning, and she doesn’t get many options in her skills because of that. Contributed ok though. All the fights went fine.

Admittedly at first I really didn’t feel like trekking through the sewer again, but after that I enjoyed how they presented this as a big exciting raid. The perspective cuts were well used, and I like the little イエスマム mirroring thing.

For the final team, I brought Tita and Olivier, which is probably the funniest choice from a story perspective. Bracers, yawn, give me the small child and the musician/spy(?) we probably shouldn’t be letting be here at all. Debating クローゼ for a bit too, would be nice to have her.

Depends if this game wants to have a long end like these sometimes do, but finishing within a few weeks maybe?

I am so bad at estimating time , last week I was panicking about it but this week I’m relatively certain we’ll be done well before the year mark.

Yeah, well, come back when I have Joshua in my party and then we’ll see, punk.

I’m now on hour 123 of this playthrough.

The castle assault was fun, I wish it lasted longer. I didn’t read the spoilers and didn’t bother optimizing my loadout. I have enough quartz and gear for everybody anyway. The sequence with Joshuaたち was trivial because of how OP he is. I wish he had been the one facing Laurence.

By the way a while back I mentioned that I wouldn’t mention the title of the banger song that plays for Laurence, it’s because it’s titled “銀の意志” and as soon as I read it I thought it must have been the white haired guy from the play.

I took Croze and Olivier. Tita was a strong contender but I decided to lean into the roleplay a bit and thought it was too strange to have a small kid in the vanguard. Also I already had Croze fully equipped from the previous sequence, so less messing around in menus.

At any rate I didn’t expect to have the entire gang 合流 for the finale. That’s fun.

Short in terms of text, long in terms of gameplay.

I'm caught up! Week 44

Kanone’s defeat seemed little anti-climactic after all her petty antagonizing, but I guess that’s the fate of a secondary villain that’s less important than she clearly thinks she is. Dunan’s was much more entertaining and I enjoyed that he got to run around shouting lines during the fight while the axe soldier obliterated my team…

Uh so, Laurence face reveal! He’s even edgier than I imagined. Curious as to why he was helping the 大佐 if he decided to abandon the plan at the last minute, since it didn’t seem like an attack of conscious.

I was (maybe) close to beating him but had some unlucky misses that lost the battle. Forget about 命中3, Schera and Kuroze both need to get some glasses! Still, the combination of defense arts and art interruption crafts seemed effective, I could probably optimize a little and try again before tackling the Very Definitely Final dungeon. The words need to be capitalized because of how dramatically different it is from everywhere else in the game. I think I even hear a choir in the background music.

The turn from ‘stop the political coup’ to ‘go deep underground to stop the civilization-ending ancient super weapon’ is very jrpg, I love it. Agreed that taking Tita along is a little silly from a lore perspective, but I have to have my favorite blonde people  Her blinding aoe might come in useful and I don’t want to miss Oliver’s comments or his flowery vocabulary.

Speaking of Olivier, he got the ハッピートリガー craft during this week’s sewer crawl and the description gave me a laugh: 花束を投げて傷を癒す, タネも仕掛けもナゾの技。He throws a bouquet and heals injuries. How does it work? Who knows.
