空の軌跡 // Trails in the Sky ⚔ Story Club・Week 40

Week 40 07th April 2025
Last Week Week 39
Next Week Week 41
Home Thread 空の軌跡

This week’s stopping point is after the winner of the tournament is decided.

Side Quests
  • 地下水路東区画の手配魔獣

While in the sewers, you’ll want to flip the lever you saw last time you were down here.

About sneaky section: it is possible to get through without being caught. How getting caught affects BP (from the wiki): Reaching the Grancel Cathedral without being detected earns 5 BP. Being detected once or twice earns 3 BP and removes some of the guards. Being detected three or four times earns 1 BP and removes more guards. Being detected five or more times earns no BP and removes most of the guards.

Hidden book (ch10): During the sneaky section at the start of this week, sneak your way to the airship docked at the airport and talk to ラルフ.

Hidden book (ch11): Available when you grab the side quest, though the method is a little convoluted. Go to East Block and to the southern entrance of the department store. Talk to アントン. Next wait for the woman walking around the department store (メーシャ) to walk by アントン twice. Then, before passing him a third time, she will wait by the southeastern corner of the department store. Talk to her. Finally, when アントン reacts to her a third time, talk to him.

Something I may or may not have forgotten to mention about these books is they are slightly lore relevant. In-universe they are fictional, but also were written by people basing the story heavily on real events or people. These in-universe fiction books usually take at least a game or two to pay off, and they’re usually not vital for understanding the main plot, except sometimes they are.

Vocabulary

Vocab Sheet , thank you to everyone who has been helping with this.

We also have an arts sheet if you’re struggling with the in-game version.

Please read the guidelines on the first page before adding any words.

Discussion Guidelines

Everybody should feel free to post and ask questions–it’s what makes book clubs fun! But please do not post until you are familiar with Spoiler Courtesy!

Spoiler Courtesy

Please follow these rules to avoid inadvertent ネタバレ. If you’re unsure whether something should have a spoiler tag, err on the side of using one.

  1. Any potential spoiler for the current week’s reading need only be covered by a spoiler tag. Predictions and conjecture made by somebody who has not read ahead still falls into this category.
  2. Any potential spoilers for external sources need to be covered by a spoiler tag and include a label (outside of the spoiler tag) of what might be spoiled. These include but are not limited to: other book club picks, other books, games, movies, anime, etc. I recommend also tagging the severity of the spoiler (for example, I may still look at minor spoilers for something that I don’t intend to read soon).
  3. Any information from later in the book than the current week’s reading (including trigger warnings that haven’t yet manifested) needs to be hidden by spoiler tags and labeled as coming from later sections.
Instructions for Spoiler Tags

Click the cog above the text box and use either the “Hide Details” or “Blur Spoiler” options. The text which says “This text will be hidden” should be replaced with what you are wishing to write. In the case of “Hide Details”, the section in the brackets that is labelled “Summary” can be replaced with whatever you like also (i.e, [details=”Chapter 1, Pg. 1”]).

Hide Details results in the dropdown box like below:

Example

This is an example of the “Hide Details” option.

The “Blur Spoiler” option will simply blur the text it surrounds.

Posting Advice
  • When asking for help, please mention the page number, and check before posting that your question hasn’t already been asked. As the threads get longer, it becomes more convenient to use the Search function, which is located in the upper right corner of the forum. It is the magnifying glass which is near your profile picture! The best way to search is usually to type part of the sentence you are confused about, and select “in this topic”. This will show you all posts within the current thread which has that string of text.

  • Be sure to join the conversation! It’s fun, and it’s what keeps these book clubs lively! There’s no such thing as a stupid question! We are all learning here, and if the question has crossed your mind, there’s a very good chance it has crossed somebody else’s also! Asking and answering questions is a great learning opportunity for everyone involved, so never hesitate to do so!

If necessary, include an explanation of any discrepancies in the Ebook page numbers from physical page numbers. If there is an easy shortcut for some ebook versions to relate back to physical page numbers, it would be worth it to include it as a third bullet here, or if you want to use chapter page numbers instead of volume page numbers, as is the case with some manga. For example:
Example

For the Kindle version of this manga, the page numbers and the location number are always 3 apart. If you subtract 3 from the location, this will give you the accurate page number!

OR

Please use the chapter page numbers, instead of the volume page numbers. These are located in between the panels!

Discussion Questions

  1. What sentence/passage gave you the most difficulty? Feel free to request some help, or if you figured it out on your own break it down for the rest of us!

  2. What was your favorite new vocab word from this week’s reading?

  3. Was there any passage that you found particularly intriguing? Did it resonate with you (either positively or negatively)? Was it surprising? Offer any insight or new perspective? Was it just beautifully written?

  4. How many times did you get caught while sneaking out?

  5. Did you win the tournament?

  6. What are your expectations for next week?

wtf is that. The devs are just trolling.

Oh.

Bit more clarification: the one time they have been vital (so far), the game where they’re relevant allows you to read it from the main menu (without having to had collect it previously).

Yeah I’ve not really been dealing with the books cause I’m not that completionist about it – I think it’s great you can dig into these games like crazy with all the side stories going on, but while I want to give it a good amount of space (still doing all side quests and etc) I also want to make the time to do other things, haha.

I hate Jin

Ok Jin is just worthless for anything but taking some hits, at least in my experience here. I got some good orbment stuff set up on Olivier that made him pretty useful in conjunction with his SBreak, but even Jin’s SBreak is so underwhelming. I ended up just having him use items sometimes cause it’s better than actually using him. We had to carry this guy so hard that the story insisting he is not pathetic kind of annoys me now. Especially cause I slipped up one decision, didn’t realize I was dipping below Joshua’s SBreak level with a skill I used, and took what looked like an easy win into a nightmare spiral of that one guy copying, healing, and becoming invincible faster than my team could move.

Got caught a few times too, not really from getting cornered by the patrolling guards but just because I could not find any good camera angle to not get spotted by someone off screen who was up against a wall or under an arch.

Let Olivier come to the party and take Jin away, please. Anyway I know we’re likely not going to accomplish much but I’m kind of glad the story made it clear our plans are basically already known about because everything our group has been doing is way too… open and obvious? It doesn’t feel like this should work out.

I wonder what Jin is saying after a fight, 行為(こうい)のビジュン or something… ってやつ

Sewer

I think I am missing a chest I can’t find a way to get to. A map or something could be helpful…

Joshua normal attack can’t effectively pierce DEF UP. Jin’s spread S-craft is getting stronger than other’s spread S.

By going to the sewers and defeating the dragons, I think I am missing the two books.

I could provide one, but am waiting for plot secrets first.

Tournament

We won, but red mask isn’t full power yet, and Jin knows.

Jin’s confusing punch can be useful. Everyone else’s normal physical attack stopped taking a significant number.

And red mask start using アースガード by the end. Guess what he’s guarding?

ジュルリ, but no :curry_rice: for Olivier. Sorry.

That infiltration sequence is infuriating to play on PSP. With the small screen and the low contrast at night I have no chance to see the guards before I enter their line of sight.

EDIT: oh and not all guards have the same line of sight. I swear this game sometimes…

there’s clearly a second hidden passage in a wall in the east sewers but I presume it’s “plot secrets” related…

Being a soldier in the capital doesn’t cover vision care

Ahah, I had the same idea.

Yep. I got rank 1 in the bracer guild and equiped the reward belt on Joshua along with other CP- and attack-boosting trinkets and spammed his S-break to great effect. Olivier used offensive magic and his S-break while Estelle healed everyone. Jin was there too.

That sewer dungeon is really underwhelming. It’s so boring and empty.

Yeah I agree with you on the sewer dungeon, and broadly what you said about their design. In earlier weeks I’m pretty sure I said the same about dungeons being a weak point in this game.

I guess there’s maybe gonna be further plot relevance but it’s kinda wild we’re closing in on the end of the game and they’re hitting us with “Ehh why don’t you go play in the sewer or something, maybe you’ll get stronger!” Optional side dungeon (or is it?) is one thing, but it’s really funny that it’s just a random sewer.
