It’s an everyday word for me, since family members have one in their house. It’s not actually a dirt floor in modern days, but it’s still called 土間. Just google image it.

Well for this book club I changed it to “already finished”, similar to what the Re:Zero club is doing. So it will distinguish people who were already finished from people who are reading now I guess. I guess some people still might change their vote afterward, but whatever.

@elisac What I’ve been doing is using Yomichan to determine if a word is common. There’s a dictionary on their website called Innocent Corpus, which supposedly shows how common a word is across 5000 novels. The higher the number the more frequent. I’m also more likely to SRS a word if the sentence I found it in is good and the meaning is clear. If the meaning is ambiguous, I don’t bother because I don’t want to learn the word wrong.

As @mrahhal brought up in the first week’s thread, the chapter/section/part numbers reset after every 章. How do you guys want me to name the threads to remove all ambiguity? Should I translate 章 as “chapter” or “section”? Or should I just use the Japanese? Here are a few options:
- 第一章 part 1
- Chapter 1 part 1
- Section 1 part 1
I chose “part” for the subsections because I don’t want to overload the term “chapter”, but let me know if you have something better. It’s not a huge deal what we pick, but I want to make sure it’s understandable at a glance and easy to search for on the forums.

I think a numbered version works best. The prologue would be numbered 0, and the parts within would be 1, 2 etc. So right now, we’re reading chapter 0.1, and next week we’ll read 0.2 etc.
For actual words, maybe “chapter” and “subchapter”?

Chapter 1 part 1 makes the most sense to me, as they correspond to the numbers books usually have throughout their chapters. I don’t know why the author chose to title them, but anyway, it doesn’t change anything.
Edit: I like @konekush’s idea of 1.1 and so on too.

That’s really common in English books, so I was surprised when I saw that a lot of Japanese books don’t.
Interestingly, the software that I consider to set typography standards (called LaTeX) uses the naming scheme of Part - Chapter - Section 
I‘m not fussed with it either way, I just found it intuitively strange to have the part to be the lower one, and after double-checking I now know why 
(I would probably go with the Japanese numbering, though, because that’s what the author introduced.)

Are you referring to Yomichan? You quoted Myria, so I didn’t realize you were asking me. 
If you right click the extension icon, there should be a way to search directly. I just search for the word in Kitsun first and then use Yomichan’s hover feature though.

Seems good to me. No need for super fancy name as long as we understand it. As someone who plan to follow the weeks it’s pretty easy. I will just do one chapter each week from where I left off. If all thread have a link to the previous and next thread then following it will be easy enough.

By the way, is it more convenient to post the next week’s thread in the previous week’s thread or in the home thread? Discourse yells if I try to post the exact same message in both at the same time, so I’d rather not do both every week.

There is no difference for me wrt convenience as I am tracking both threads, but I find it more logical to post in the home thread as technically speaking, the next chapter has nothing to do with the contents of the previous one, but has everything to do with the whole book

I normaly do it in the week thread so that It’s like a line from beginning to end without having to always come back to the main thread. But yeah both work
