For the life of me, I cannot remember which is which during reviews. How do you remember which is which?
光栄 (こうえい)- honour - I try and use the kou and placement of “o” to remember that this is honour
I use the same thing for 論理 (logic) and 理論 (theory)
I remember it by:
栄光: first you Flourish 栄、and then you get recognized (like a spotlight shines on you) 光. You get to revel in the Glory of all your accomplishments.
光栄: you haven’t done anything, but someone shines a light on you and celebrates you 光, and afterwards your life flourishes with wealth and comfort 栄. You are honored and even humbled by this.
I noticed that alphabetically eikou/glory come before kouei/honour and that helped me pair them correctly.
Memorize the phrase “光栄です” (it’s an honor). Just imagine an anime character bowing to his king, honored to be in his presence. And then 栄光 is just the other one.
This is what cemented it for me, hope this helps
This is my own menemonic.
When the light 光 is in front of you, you feel honored 光栄 by its presence.
When the light 光 is behind you, you feel like you could do anything to achieve glory 栄光.
Imagine this however you see fit. I imagine this in Dark Soul setting.
There are many of these threads around with people sharing mnemonics. Here’s one I just got to Honor and Glory
