本好きの下剋上 home thread

Also, I just finished volume 7 and with that the second arc.
I don’t really have much to add to what I said before. I really liked it, but it has its flaws that might deter people and I don’t think the reward you get for pushing through will be worth it for just anyone.
I really like the characters and the universe. Action scenes are pretty cool too. Book making though… hm, not really my thing, and there’s a lot of it.
Ah, also illustrations are amazing (especially the color pages). I really want to share the one from volume 8, but it’s such a massive spoiler (once you have read volume 3, otherwise you would lack context) that I can’t.

I have bought Vol 2 and 3 now  .

So are people think the 雪国 and 本好き下克上 vol 2 book club will be at the same time?

Well, that’s the way offshoots usually work, which is also why I was making a poll about it.
It’s possible to delay the start by a few weeks so that people have time to get used to or drop 雪国.

Well… the official title in French is « La petite faiseuse de livres » (“The little bookmaker”) so… yeah, lot of book making I guess x)

I mean, just reading the first chapter would tell people to expect book making. :stuck_out_tongue:

Well, she could have found out that only her family doesn’t have books and/or go on a journey to read all the books of this “new” world  That would be in line with a lot of other isekai stories

That’s an interesting title. Was not expecting that one. I did not though «faiseuse» was an acceptable word. Always thought it was a slang word or an invented word ha ha. Talk about changing the meaning of a book title ha ha

No, it’s the feminine form of “faiseur”, « Celui qui fabrique » (“the one that makes”, from “faire”, to make). According to the source used by the Wiktionary page, it existed at least as far back as 1788 (a year before the French Revolution ^^) and it is also in the physical dictionary (Larouse) I have from 1978 although it is noted as an old word no longer in common use.

Yeah, it’s not spoiling the same part of the story ^^ But at least you know that you have to like books to read it :stuck_out_tongue:

Is it connected to a certain black and white creature? Er… or red in this case. This little fella:

Summary

Anyway, I too found the excessively detailed book making to be something of a chore to get through, but things will pick up from there.

No, I was talking about (volume 8 spoiler)what the main character is wearing, since it shows her current err job title.

Thanks! I’ll come up with some schedule options tonight.

I only really saw one schedule I liked this time around, so here it is. 10 weeks, just like book one, though it’s a little less balanced. If there are major concerns with this schedule I can try to come up with a new one.

P.S. With a little messing around you can copy from excel to paste tables directly into Discourse. :tada:

I’m not reading this book and I’m not planning to, but I’m curious about what book making exactly means in this series.
Is it more about creating stories or more about gathering materials, learning how to bind books, inventing print and so on?
As I’m not planning to read it, I’m fine with spoilers included in an answer.

Learning the details of various printing processes, ink making, book binding as you said, and more.
