Why does it say 前 twice when it’s just saying that he has become quicker than before? Do Japanese people just randomly repeat things in stories for no obvious reason cause I’ve seen this sort of thing before and I don’t understand it

Are you referring to the last sentence ? There are two different words here. お前 is a familiar way to say “you”. You can replace it by あなた.

Well, you got your answer in this case, but I think what you are referring to might be onomatopoeia. They often “double-up”

前 = before

Yes, like I said they got the answer in this case from Kokinshu. But since they said they have seen repetitions before and appear to be a beginner, I thought, I’d point them out.
