先/去 Kanji Complaint (more of a whinge)

Mainly venting about how frustrating I find the similarities between 先 and 去 - I’ll see something like 先年 and think it means former years, and think 去年 is last year :face_holding_back_tears:

Also, I keep seeing 先日 as yesterday but I can’t blame that on mixing up the two :joy:

Either way. These kanji frustrate me and I am angy (or sulky, whatever suits)

Oh well, back to reviewing these darn things…

Sounds like you have no issue with them…?

Well, the issue seems to be that they’re so confused they don’t know if they’re confused or not.

Even when I’m complaining I get them mixed up! :joy:

I meant to say I answer last year for 先年 and former years for 去年

Although I notice nothing is returned when I search former years on WK - was this one removed?

Can’t remember the last time I’ve seen 先年 in a book (if ever), so don’t get too hung up on it.

Lol - quite funny as I was just struggling with these recently too. You are not alone!

It do appear in articles, though. Maybe not super common, but it does.

It looks like we’ve never had it on WaniKani! At least that’s what the database tells me, if it had previously been on the website but then got taken down we’d at least still have an entry for the hidden item, but it seems like there’s just nothing there.

Strange, I coulda sworn I’d seen it on here. Memory is playing tricks on me I guess

I’m sure I saw it, too.

It comes up a lot in the forums if you search for it.
