I’m really glad you guys all read this weeks chapter before me, because I would never have worked out any of the math vocab in this chapter

Thanks everyone!

Heh, that was fun.

I wanna know how they convinced Saito to lie down for that photo on the last page. They had a hard enough time just convincing him to stand still.

My mom used to say that when I was little.

Are all the moms the same? :joy:

This was such a fun chapter  My favourite one so far in this volume I think.

I’m so glad we got to see the bloopers!

Are they coming up with some kind of combination technique on the title page there?

It does seem like the next logical step for them to take.

Final chapter of the volume! Careful, this week’s a bit educational.

Why is から used there? To express sympathy or warning? Can we replace it with が?

あげてないがすごい手口だな!

This から has the “since/because” meaning.

It becomes more clear if you add the subject, object, and the indirect object to the sentence:

Since you didn’t give money to them, that’s a great trick!

Seen this way, replacing から with が would produce a meaning more like, “You didn’t give them money, but that’s a great trick!”

Thanks, I was confused about who is saying what and thought it says “I don’t give them money but that is a great trick(so I will give this time).” Of course there are two different speech balloons. I am blind. :woman_facepalming:

This was a sweet chapter, and a nice end to the volume

Though I’m kind of embarrassed to admit that I’d never actually thought about 神社 and お寺 not being the same thing. I never really considered it before and just assumed the words were interchangable. :grimacing:

Big thanks @ChristopherFritz for continuing to organize the club.
I’m looking forward to Volume 6!

@anon99047008 For whatever it’s worth, now that I’m back playing DQ11, the characters DO actually say the spell names sometimes, heh. I was mistaken about that before because it had been a while and they definitely don’t all the time; it’s random.

Alrighty, finally got around to reading the chapters!

Chapter 42, in case anyone didn’t spot the stylised kanji, Oyaji’s glasses frames read 台東 = たいとう = the name of the ward of Tokyo where Ueno is located.

Chapter 43, I feel… pretty sure I’ve linked these before, but Baldy’s temple is Marishiten Tokudaiji, the shrine in the park with the big torii is Gojoten-jinja, while the “super-shrine” is Hanazono Inari-jinja, just behind.

I took this photo of that last one myself. :slightly_smiling_face:

(I like that little callback to their last visit here on the omake page.)

Tragically for the Colours, like all rules in Japanese, the “temples have Buddha statues, shrines have torii gates” rule is broken all the time. For example, Shinobazu-no-Ike Benten-do Temple, which stands all of two hundred metres from where they are, has a torii gate, albeit a fairly small one. Google maps image.
