Ah, that’s an interesting system, even if it favours those with big mana reserves more.
だって、グレンやシリルを見ているフェリクスの目は、なんだかやけにキラキラしていたのだ
Is it… love?!
Well, that was a nice first chapter. Not overly exciting, but it’s great to see Monica’s growth, both in not wanting to run away from this challenge and in how she dealt pretty well with Felix this time. Felix didn’t even try to tease her either!
So, we’re back in the much more pleasant present. I’d completely forgotten that the school festival is still on after the events of the last volume. Good thing Lana has got Monica’s wardrobe covered. I usually hate school festival arcs, but maybe this one will be more interesting than usual, due to the threat of assassination attempts, secret identities getting revealed and stuff.
It sounds sadistic, but I liked how epically bad Monica is at staying seated on a horse. The fact that she has some things where she rolled a critical miss when the talent sheet was put together to balance out all the things she extremely good at makes her a much more interesting character.
So Monica is still feeling pointlessly guilty over the fact that Cyril feels pointlessly guilty because of the falling wood incident. Clearly they’re made for each other.
I mean, it’s obviously fascination with magic, but I wouldn’t be surprised if this one line also launched two ships when read by a fanfic writer.
Oh, absolutely. Without that balance she would’ve just been one of the many other power fantasy characters that just cruise through the plot without much difficulty. Conversely, most of Silent Witch so far has been about Monica struggling with situations she’s decidedly not good at. (And then, when we sometimes do get to magic and math, it’s always a refreshing change of pace to see her so competent and calm.)
I also feel conversing with Felix became a little bit easier for her. Think she got a sentence in without stuttering.
Sometimes it feels like Monica’s cosmic d20 can only ever roll 1’s and 20’s, and I’m all for it. She never feels like a boring power fantasy.
I liked the prologue and the first chapter. I wonder how salty バーニー still is, and if he can become buddies with Monica again. Though I somewhat doubt that.
