This week’s chapter corresponds with the the remaining two-thirds of the ninth episode of the anime, plus all of the tenth episode, or roughly from 16:50 to 19:15 of the fourth season’s first episode. (Also, I found the transition-summary version of chapters 5 and 6 - they’re here at the 19:15 mark.)

It’s not specifically identified in the chapter, but from its description as the hardest route on Takao-san, and various things they see along the way, it’s most likely route 6. Helpfully, the anime, unlike the manga, does identify it as route six. Fun fact: this is the route used by the main characters in the latest volume of Yotsubato. In general, there’s not many specific points to link, but the “the path turned into a river!” section starting on page 132 is roughly here, while the waterfall on page 138 is here.

Page 131, in the anime version of the chapter, as well as the comment about モモンガ being nocturnal, Hinata goes on to (correctly) add that it’s ムササビ (Japanese giant flying squirrel) which are found on Takao-san, not モモンガ, so I wonder if someone sent in a correction after the chapter was published.

And that brings us to the end of the volume! I figure people can read the afterword and the ヤマにススムためのコラム section on their own time. Should keep you busy while I’m away. :slightly_smiling_face: We can perhaps gauge interest in a spin-off club when I get back.

Wow, the new girl is really cute. Also maybe crazy for climbing a mountain by herself lol.

Yay, we finished! Thank you for hosting! This and 俺物語 were my first book clubs, so this is actually my first finished book club! This one was a bit difficult at first to read, but the last two weeks I’ve felt like the chapter’s flew by, especially this last one. I almost didn’t join the BBC club and nearly just joined the ABBC, but I saw BBC were doing ヤマノススメ and having seen the OG anime I thought I could do this (did I remember literally anything? No lol). I’m glad I joined both, it worked out really well for me!

If we don’t continue this one I might read more by myself at a later time, it was really good kanji practice for me.

Congratulations on finishing your first book club! Great achievement. Now comes the challenging part of whether to continue reading the later volumes, join another book club, or both! Soon the number of bookclubs you are in will be multiplying…

Thanks @Belthazar for hosting us. Mt Takao feels very much like a potential trip on a future Japan trip, and this was a fun way to be introduced to it.

This book showed quite nicely the challenge of reading native material. Most of the dialogue was quite an accessible level, but then some of those text boxes were much more challenging. Native material isn’t written with learners in mind!

Cute and fun! Thanks for hosting @Belthazar - on the topic of spinoff, I’d probably try to join for the remainder of the volumes that were free, but this didn’t totally capture me so not super committed to finishing

Thanks for hosting!

And thanks for all these links and fun facts, I’ve really enjoyed it. And wow - I love the path one. It’s really fun to follow along that trail

Thank you for hosting!! This was the first club read I’ve done where I’ve felt comfortable with reading the whole time :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:
