Don’t forget to look at the polls for this week!!

I think it’d be fun to keep reading, but maybe we can see if people would be happy about reading two (or more) chapters a week from the start? I ended up reading ahead for this one, which meant I ended up not discussing the chapters as much.

Yeah, I think continuing at the current pace to start would make sense for an offshoot!

Okay, so Hidden Machine = ひでんマシン = 秘伝マシン? I always throught that name was kind of awkward in English, but now I know where it came from :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Fun bit on the Hidden Machines and the games:

Since HM’s are no longer a thing starting with Sun/Moon, the Scarlet/Violet games replace them with an item called 秘伝スパイス.

The English version calls the items Herba Mystica, which not-so-coincidentally shortens to HM.

Just finished up chapter 11! That was a cute ending there  Red got really lucky… he absolutely could have just died lol. He’s lucky the villain was dumb enough to throw a water pokemon into the water to get rid of it.

It’s been fun joining you all, and it’s great being able to finish a volume this quickly, but I must admit at this pace I have to gloss over a lot. Hence being uncertain about an offshoot.

On the other hand, if it’s just the Kanto arc for now, that’s only two more volumes… and it would be nice to own and have read at least one arc of the manga.

So I’m open to it, especially if there’s enough other folks joining c:

I have either good or bad news.

The Kanto arc is 7 volumes. (Unless you want to end on a massive cliffhanger.)

I was also under the impression it was only 3 for some reason… Is it that red is no longer the protagonist after the third?

Yes, there is a main character change (coinciding with the cover art), but (most of) the Kanto story threads do not resolve until the end of volume 7.

Now I have to decide if I’m willing to commit for another six volumes :joy:

Better to know now than after the offshoot starts though!

The manga continues to be more brutal than anything else in the Pokemon series, Lt. Surge literally zapping Red to the brink of death before dropping him in the ocean…

Skimming some of the more difficult casual vocabulary to get caught up, but I really enjoyed the race! Seeing Red use his Pokemon to get around the circumstances was fun-- and I guess this would be the first official appearance of Snorlax’s Z move :joy:
