I love Red and Kasumi’s dynamic, they’re a lot nicer to each other than in the anime. Red is still a brat and Kasumi does hit him in this chapter, but it’s only because she was still half-conscious and thought he was Team Rocket!
I assume Red will just hang onto the moon stone for now, since he just wanted to keep Team Rocket from having it – maybe he’ll meet a Clefairy eventually? (I’m not including Kasumi here because I think she might split off from Red and go home at some point :o)
Hello everyone! I decided to join in on this club and just caught up!
Thoughts on the story so far:It’s been fun reading the origins of the names of all the pokemon, it is interesting how the tried to translate some of the puns in english and some others they just kept as is since the pun was already an anglicism or just a cool name.
I like the characters so fa and the differences in the story in general compared to the show, which I watched so long ago at this point but is still kinda nostalgic here!
I needed the help of google to understand this exchange on page 104:
レッド: 「ヒュ~!馬にも衣装とはこのことだぜ!」
かすみ: 「馬子にも…でしょ!」
Red is referencing the phrase「馬子にも衣装」. A 馬子 is a packhorse driver, so this phrase means something like “Even on a packhorse driver, clothes (can make all the difference, can make him look great, etc.)”
However, what Red says 馬 instead of 馬子, making his statement more like:
“So, this is the phrase “Even on a horse, clothes (can make all the difference)” means!”
Kasumi is understandably offended to be compared to a horse, so she corrects him
This week is a lot tougher as it gets pretty dialect heavy, and the page count increases! Best to get started as soon as possible to make sure you can keep up!
I just happened to order 星の王子様 too!! Yoru Sumino (author of “I want to eat your pancreas”) references it in several of their works and I wanted to see what it was about haha
Wait was I missing that this was the reason for Kasumi attacking him in the night or was this somewhere else? I thought it was her trying to show him the results of her special training/how Red wasn’t strong enough
I know the number of books often recommended at this level are pretty low so it’s not too crazy, but it’s funny you say that because I ended up finishing 星の王子様 the other day, and today started reading また、同じ夢を見ていた!
You’re thinking of week 7’s reading, I think! I’m referring to page 101 where Red carries Kasumi away from Mt. Moon after she passed out. She wakes up confused and punches him after calling him a pervert lol. I guess she could theoretically know it’s Red, but since she
says “where is this,” freaks out about how dirty she’s gotten and doesn’t even look at Red before punching him, I figure she thinks she’s being kidnapped or something haha
That’s pretty funny because I’ve been (slowly) reading また、同じ夢を見ていた but also wanted to read 星の王子様 haha-- wish I had more free time to read all I want to tackle
oh I see what you were talking about I just didn’t read it as him being Team Rocket so was confused, thank you for clarifying!!
