Sho nuff. I like all these little acrylic standees. Where’d they come from?
You mean the anime/manga the caracters are from? Or where I got them?
The ones right behind horimiya are from wotakoi (love is hard for otaku), they came with the mangas (germany).
at the very back are athanasia and her dad from “who made me a princess”. They were part of the special edition for the manga (again, germany) and the last one at the left are “sasaki and miyano”, wich is a very cute BL. I brought them in Japan, in a used good store.
In Show Off? Part of the Book Off group.
I can’t wait for us to get started !
Last time with Ruri Dragon, I failed to keep up with the schedule because I was doing everything in one big session on saturday, which at some point I didn’t have the time to do.
Now I’m doing more reading than before. I’ve bee reading Rental Big brother and doing steady progress. Hopefully I can stick around this time.
I dont really remember anymore… might have been mandarake or one of the shops next to it.
We went to a lot of “manga merch stores” and there is one alley full of “boys love merch” stores, which are hard to get in “normal” stores. ^^ (was in tokyo, ikebukuro)
I was recently in Japan and searched for horimiya merch but had trouble finding any That did however push me to instead impulse-buy all the manga when I saw most of them 2nd hand in a BookOff lol
It was surprisingly cheap, coming in at under 25 euros for them all. Infinitely cheaper than I could have got them in Europe!
So I’m definitely glad this book club will be around to actually get me to start reading them…
Woah I knew about the two art books but what on earth is in Volume 17
It was released super recently (Jul 18th I think it was, just a couple of days before I left Japan…), It’ll take me while to get to it for sure but afaik its got some extra stories / side-stories in it Not sure exactly what though!
Hmmmmmmm looks like I might be putting together a new book order sooner than I anticipated then…
I knew about volume 17, but not the two others.
“Completionism” is “a thing”, after all…
I ended up having enough coins on bookwalker to buy volume 17 last night and read through it (still gonna buy a physical copy next time I do a book order, but I have to finish cleaning out my shelves before I can do that ). The chapter numbering starts over in volume 17, and volume 16 is still listed the 完 volume. So it might be a new “series” more like the webcomic where it’s just shorter more scattered little stories, but given a nicer looking manga treatment. I haven’t actually read much of the webcomic, so I don’t know if these are new new stories or adaptations from that, but they were definitely a lot of fun!
It was absolutely a nice treat to get more of them though, I’d really assumed we were done! The text density felt a little higher than the normal series, although I don’t have the mokuro stats to prove it. It took me a bit longer to read some of the chapters than the main series did, but maybe that’s just from familiarity
I was mistaken! It wasn’t Horimiya that I bought and returned in the past. It was Wotakoi. I received my copy of Horimiya today and realized my mistake.
I know nothing about this manga. I opened it and read the first page, only truly understanding half of it, and guessing the rest based on context.
I also bought a handful of other assorted manga. Neko Ramen is hilarious so far. Also going to try Pokémon, but I can already tell that the Pokémon names are going to confuse me. I didn’t realize that the English names were so different.
That one I’m not familiar with, but I’m glad to hear it wasn’t Horimiya. That alone increases the chances you’ll enjoy the volume!
Then fast-forward 30 years later when I’m actually learning Japanese, and I get lightbulb moments like “Oh! So かみつく is 噛み付く. I understand it!”
I didn’t realise all you dorks were already partying in here. I could have been dorking it up about these dorks the whole time.
I’m excited to see how much of this I understand without too much difficulty. At level 21… Hmmm, should be set. Hopefully the Amazon version doesn’t have the Bookwalker compression issues!
(PS Wotokoi is great but I think it’s very heavy on the nerd lingo so it’s probably a pretty difficult read in JPN)
It very much does. All digital versions are roughly the same quality
blurgh! well, i might put up with it, or i’ll see if my local kino has it in stock…
Heya!
I just bought the ebook on Bookwalker. Hopefully I can stay consistent and read along
This will be my first Book Club participation
Welcome to the club! We’re glad to have you!
For what it’s worth, the digital I have on hand (which to my understanding is going to be the same file as any other digital out there) is perfectly legible, with some difficult outliers as seen here:
