Yes please! Let me know when you’ve found the google maps location. I feel like I need to spend more time hanging out in a port lounge.

I found this a harder chapter this week and it felt really long! But very enjoyable exploring this fantasy town.

●コラム● 足下の歩き方 その６ 町の興り

このアラビ積み木市場は、元は３人の名士が建てた店から始まったと言われている。

漁師の気球丸、布問屋のウィリー、珈琲焙煎士のキュウカ。彼らはそれぞれ、穏やかで遠浅なアラビ湾の性質を生かした様々な海産物の獲得、干潟の泥を用いた綿花栽培法の確立、そして労働者に憩いの場を提供する事で、町の発展に貢献した。

現在は廃墟となっている中央広場跡地を中心に、人が人を呼ぶ形で積み重なったのが今日のアラビの原型である。今でも中央広場には、３人の銘が刻まれた石碑が安置されている。

尚、独特の積み重なった建築方法に関しては、３人の「重ねればいくらでも店が建てられるよね」という呑みの席の戯言から発生したと言われている。

I really enjoy the different vibrant cities they visit in the story! This chapter’s market aesthetic reminded me a bit of Kowloon, I wonder if that was a partial inspiration. The food kanji were quite on the tough side though, I agree with Micki that his was a harder chapter to get through. But definitely fun!
