My computer can be a bitch sometimes 
It is only 3 years old, so no where near retirement yet, but maybe starting to get dementia or poor vision =P
Some eyedrops (reload) and it could see the image =^_^=
Backup then reinstall the OS (wait 6 month, repeat )
