Ok, that’s a bit of a strange reaction IMO but that adds up.
this is also in some ways her ‘true face’ compared to her more benevolent mask she usually wears, so she’s a bit grouchier
Chapter 38
p.72: I’m a bit lost with the cast, but don’t we have 3 parties at the moment? (until they part at the end of the chapter of course) Laois’, Kaburuu’s and Shuuro’s. Someone from Kaburuu’s party resurrects someone from Shuuro’s party, so it’s not a given that they have to help, but they agree to it since they got help by the other party?
Was a nice chapter otherwise, resolution of the battle (kinda), bonding between Laos and Shuuro (kinda), and Laois’ party continue the adventure while everyone else (kinda) has left the dungeon. Will be interesting to see when アセビ shows up again.
I think it’s meant to show that Kaburu is very calculating and thinks coldly. While Raiosたち took insane risks for a minuscule chance of savings Falin, Kaburu decides to prioritize resuscitating compete strangers over his own friends and even his lover because he thinks that’s the optimal strategy.
He’s a min-maxer basically.
Makes sense to me too… But maybe I’m a min-maxer too…
Yeah as I mentioned above I thought it was a strange element because it just seems like good common sense and not callous behavior to me, but I feel that’s what the author was driving at.
A bit strange, I thought he was a people person (seeing as he had looked forward to meet Laois for a long time and knew every party from the dungeon). Maybe there will be more explanation later.
Personally I would say it’s meant to be more illustrative of Maizuru’s mindset. Kabru is observant, clear-headed and practical, so he made the best decision for helping everybody (and I think the definitely not-cold Laios wouldn’t have acted differently in his place here), while Maizuru’s main priority is definitely 100% Shuro and his family line, and only Shuro and his family line. She would definitely prioritize her own in-group before helping others, and absolutely would not have made the same decision Kabru did in his place, and it’s not even a given that she’d be game to help. The moment is just a way of explaining why she does.
Kabru’s definitely calculating, and you could argue he’s cold for it, but I think the moment is highlighting more Maizuru’s specific kind of coldness, that the concept of helping an out-group for anything other than a cold and calculating reason was confusing to her.
ch38
I’m a little ambivalent about this past couple of chapters. I feel like the tone is a bit all over the place.
At first I was a bit shocked by how brutal and visually explicit many of the deaths and wounds were. I feel like until now the violence in this manga was generally cartoony, but here we saw the dislocated bodies of people falling to their deaths, corpses impaled on spikes, people ruthlessly crushed under the claws of the chimera…
And then within the span of a few pages everything is effectively reset and there are no long-term consequences to anything? The only real change is that the others know what Marcille did? I presume that’s also why they decide to remain in the dungeon when previously the objective was to exit and recover a bit. But then, what’s the plan moving forward?
I guess there’s also Chekhov’s Ninja roaming in the maze now.
The interaction between Raios and Kaburu was the highlight of the chapter for me. Especially the part involving the Harpie 卵焼き…
Agree that there was much violence in this chapter, especially when trying to kill the chimera, which just looks like Farin in the scenes.
To eat three times a day and to sleep well.
It’s “Rescue Falin”, same as always, except the second part has changed from “… by defeating the Red Dragon” to “… by defeating the Magician”. They’ve just escalated from the dungeon’s mini-boss to the Big Boss. They’ll figure out the exact mechanism of the rescue once they’ve completed step two.

Chapter 39
I was excited before reading this week’s chapter, cause its short - only 17 pages (and I’m a bit behind some of my book clubs). And then it turned out I had to go and reread chapter 12 of volume 2 =.= Well, I have cheated and reread in not in Japanese, shame on me! Also it must be fun to reread everything!
So all those paintings are real and are time portals to past events. Couldn’t our 主人公達, I don’t know, return to that level and correct everything?!Well, death of the king maybe at least.
I think the events are real but I don’t think you can change anything, it’s more like a recording. Source: I dunno it makes sense to me.
It’s true that the elf seemed to exist within the painting, but that may just be 狂乱の魔術師 things.
Chapter 39
A spot the 7 differences game inside the dungeon, fun! I wonder how they will fare in part 2.

Chapter 40
There she is! I have to admit I didn’t think about her at all when they realized that the tea had disappeared
