Spoiler Courtesy
Please follow these rules to avoid inadvertent ネタバレ. If you’re unsure whether something should have a spoiler tag, err on the side of using one.
- Any potential spoiler for the current week’s reading need only be covered by a spoiler tag. Predictions and conjecture made by somebody who has not read ahead still falls into this category.
- Any potential spoilers for external sources need to be covered by a spoiler tag and include a label (outside the spoiler tag) of what might be spoiled. These include but are not limited to: other book club picks, other books, games, movies, anime, etc. I recommend also tagging the severity of the spoiler (for example, I may still look at minor spoilers for something that I don’t intend to read soon).

Thoughts
That’s a really interesting mind game that you want to gang up with others to be stronger, while at the same time being very suspicious of everybody… Logically speaking it doesn’t make too much sense to betray your companions en route as they help you along, but then again… 
Interesting development with they probable new companion. He seems to be a fun dude. I was surprised to see that Futaba was surprised about the ninja story - I thought at the time ninja were a normal part of life 
I must say that I am still a bit shaky on spoken language, especially with general slang plus the kansai-ben dude 
But I noticed that I can pick up more and more small cues that help me along.
I finally had some time to also catch back up.
Roughly part1
The fight I don’t remember seeing in the drama. Makes a lot of sense that someone followed them though, and they were targeted there. What a bad cop, trying to murder people 
I honestly would have taken my time, even with the police being on the way, to secure the second 木札 of the cop. With that they would have enough 木札 to get through the next 関門 and I don’t think it would have taken more than maybe 2-3 minutes to actually find it.
In my edition there was a big 漢字 slipup, editor apparently didn’t notice. One of the old-timey 跫音 was written with 跫足 instead. I was shortly puzzled until I realized it had to be a mistake.
Roughly part2
Not much happening in this chapter, but they made a lot of travel progress it seems. They could both work a little on their communication skills, though it was still nice to get some more background information on our protagonist.
Roughly part3
I love him. Had already a big impact in the drama version and is as nice to read in the book as well. Really hard to know what his true goals are, you always feel like he’s a step ahead of you, but he still comes across as approachable. Making him speak dialect is such a great move 
Drama comparisons
The chapter 2 ends where dialect guy and our protagonist duo have agreed to meet in a few days at another in.
I remember these negotiations taking place at the 薊宿 instead in the drama. So they moved some things around by cutting out the cop fight in the first inn and instead moving the dialect guy there. I think that is a solid decision and doesn’t change the story too much. It even feels like the money the Inn owner gives them makes a little more sense in the drama. In the book it’s just about one sentence explaining he helped his daughter at their first encounter…
