Spoiler Courtesy

Please follow these rules to avoid inadvertent ネタバレ. If you’re unsure whether something should have a spoiler tag, err on the side of using one.

  1. Any potential spoiler for the current week’s reading need only be covered by a spoiler tag. Predictions and conjecture made by somebody who has not read ahead still falls into this category.
  2. Any potential spoilers for external sources need to be covered by a spoiler tag and include a label (outside the spoiler tag) of what might be spoiled. These include but are not limited to: other book club picks, other books, games, movies, anime, etc. I recommend also tagging the severity of the spoiler (for example, I may still look at minor spoilers for something that I don’t intend to read soon).
  3. Any information from later in the book than the current week’s reading (including trigger warnings that haven’t yet manifested) needs to be hidden by spoiler tags and labeled as coming from later sections.
Instructions for Spoiler Tags

Click the cog above the text box and use either the “Hide Details” or “Blur Spoiler” options. The text which says “This text will be hidden” should be replaced with what you are wishing to write. In the case of “Hide Details”, the section in the brackets that is labelled “Summary” can be replaced with whatever you like also (i.e, [details=”Chapter 1, Pg. 1”]).

Hide Details results in the dropdown box like below:

Example

This is an example of the “Hide Details” option.

The “Blur Spoiler” option will simply blur the text it surrounds.

That chapter was a surprise! After a few pages I actually double-checked whether I had accidentally opened the wrong book  but then the connection became clear when our new protagonist カムイコチャ started to mention the big money.
For Shuujirou it turns out to have been a very smart move to take Futaba along, as everybody seems to be friendly to him because of her. Very interesting!
Also, at the end of the chapter we meet the organizers of the event :face_with_crossed_out_eyes: It had already crossed my mind that maybe it’s organized by the government in order to have the remaining Samurai kill each other to get rid of the 江戸時代 remains, and it seems that’s actually the background story here :exploding_head:
Also we learn about a very interesting soldier, 貫地谷無骨, who also participates in the event, and whose description reminded me a lot of our friend Kyoujin…

Also, we have a typo :-D Did you notice?

Have not read the content yet. It does seem like a pretty common occurrence since I already found a pretty egregious one in week 3 as well. Japanese people just don’t take Kanji seriously tss

Finally caught up. Would have not realized the typo if you hadn’t pointed it out.

I don’t get yet why we spent so much time with him and then just have this one short encounter. I think he needs to play a bigger role later down the line.

Interesting observation

To me, he sounds way more bloodthirsty. 響陣 seems more like a sly strategist, but the new guy only fights to kill with his sword. I don’t think we have met him yet, and according to the legends about him (making it out of a camp full of armed soldiers, with guns even, after killing the commander), I don’t think we would live to tell the tale if we did…

The last part with the government people talking was the hardest to read for me. Just a lot of words to look up and unknown phrases :(. It wasn’t uninteresting after looking up some of the names. The 維新の三傑 actually exist. I really should brush up on some Japanese history. Except for really famous names like nobunaga the whole of Japanese history is still a blank sheet for me.
