よつばと! Vol 2 Discussion Thread (Yotsuba&! Reading Club)

God, we’re on chapter 8 already? I stopped reading when studying for exams… Haven’t finished chapter one yet. I guess I’ll catch up tiday

The chapters continue from the previous volume, so chapter 8 is the first chapter in volume 2.

I’m assuming you’re up to volume 2. If you haven’t read volume 1 yet just ignore my comment.

Oh, ok. Yeah I’m on the second book. Was kind of happy to have a lot to read though… Hmpf

Just spotted what I think is a typo in your superb adaptation/translation.
Page 15. おさないで よ!
Should be おすないで よ!
Forgive me if I’m wrong!

No, おさないで is correct.
When taking the negative of a 五段動詞 (err, the translation is “godan verb”, so I’ll just say that), you change the vowel to あ, then add ない
おす → おさない

Actually, I made the same mistake. It was @Kazzeon who fixed it.

I’ll ask something then.

What’s the difference between ~さ and ~な, when they end phrases? Miura uses both a lot. I think they both mean something along the lines of “you see/know”, but I’m not sure about the nuance.
