This week’s chapter is approximately forty percent of the anime’s third episode.
The title image comes from oddloop, by Frederic.
In the first panel of page 50, the characters are standing outside the Odakyu Shimokitazawa Station, though I’m having some trouble determining exactly which exit. Curiously, the design of the station signage appears to be mirrored, with the Odakyu logo on the right (in the real world, it’s always on the left).
For an anime-only reference, the shot where Bocchi runs away after accidentally beatboxing on page 46 is reportedly a direct reference to a similar shot in early-noughties anime FLCL.
Not references, but this chapter certainly has some fun reaction shots in the anime.
And as it’s an odd-numbered week, time for another speed-up poll. Please vote - if you’re undecided or not confident, that probably means “no”. For those at the back of the class not paying attention, this is to decide whether to increase speed from one to two chapters per week.
I think your poll needs another option for those of us in the ‘Don’t care either way’ camp if you want more engagement. I have no problem with speeding up or continuing at the current pace so I don’t want to skew the results away from those who really do have a particular desired outcome.
And thanks for posting up the references for each week, I’ve really enjoyed seeing where the title scenes come from.
It’s also crimbo soon which will slow down a few people, one a week feels good until new year (and the volume won’t be far from ending!)
anyway, i’m gonna make some comments behind spoilers. the first one you can read if you’ve been reading the manga, the second embedded spoiler is very much reserved for those that have watched the anime
Spoiler 1
we have our first appearance of the red one! Kitachan the talent
anyway, i’m in the slow camp for now because i’m rushing to get to the appropriate spot in phoenix wright by christmas so i can post a stupid meme on the right day
Ooh, one real-world reference I forgot to mention: On the very last page of this section, in the anime, the energy drinks that Nijika and Ryo bring are obvious bland-name versions of Monster. Here in the manga, they appear to be Red Bull, but it’s quite a bit more subtle.
Another of event’s fucking stupid deals where they get the anime stuff weeks after the states does, run limited sessions and don’t fucking tell anybody
Further googling suggests that Village and Hoyts had screenings too, so it’s not just Event. Well, I presume they did from the fact that they have pages about them. We generally get Japanese things before the US, though.
I can’t believe they brought over the jpn movies (look back also aired in oct - had to scramble to catch that one) when I was too busy preparing for a trip to jpn to watch them. Smh
