Live reading starts in just under one hour!

Thanks @2000kanji for putting together the list of page enders for the last section.

Something just occurred to me. Can you minimise discord and use other apps etc? Just realised I’m planning to use the same device that my ebook is on!

Otherwise I can try to get discord on my laptop but I’m having issues with the laptop audio anyway…

Yes I think that should be ok. You can go into the voice channel at any time and start a call so you could experiment now if you wanted.

Just to be safe I’ve got it set up on the laptop, but will try just using the ipad.

That was fun, thanks everyone! :sparkles:

Also sorry for my not-smooth-too-fast-error-prone reading

It wasn’t too fast - I think it was just right. Too slow and it becomes disjointed, like mine!

Thanks to everyone who joined in the live reading. I didn’t count how many people were there, I think it was about 12? It was great fun and there were some good tips shared about speaking.

Next week’s reading will be at the same time. So that is Sunday June 7th at 13:00 UTC, or in your local time:

2020-06-07T13:00:00Z

We will be reading the first five chapters of section one. That is pages 16-33 in the new version. It’s about 16 pages of text with two picture pages.

The chapters are:

  • Eyebrows
  • Fingernails
  • Poop colour
  • Insect bites
  • Hiccups

Again, if you want to practice beforehand you can nominate here which chapter you’d like to do. If we have lots of people again we can split the chapters and do half each to give everyone a chance to read who wants to. If you don’t want to read and just want to listen in you are very welcome, and can stay on mute if you prefer not to speak at all.

Thanks to all participants and to you for the organizing.
I find it difficult to concentrate on listening, reading along and understanding all at the same time. For most of the time I renounced trying to understanding.

(How do you display the local time for everyone in your message?)

Yes I agree it’s much more difficult to follow at the speed of speaking. I think it will be useful looking over those early chapters again this week to refamiliarise with the content.

With the dates there is a calendar button when you are typing your post, in between the settings button and the emoji button. If you insert the time in this way the forum does the rest of the magic. Assuming that it gets your time zone right!

It is now 2020-05-31T14:51:00Z. Sorry, I had to try that.
Edit: At least it was when I clicked on “Reply”. (that was UTC+2.)

Thank you @Micki for your tireless support for this club.

This was my first experience of a live reading.

I thought the standard of reading was very good indeed. It was nice that so many people were willing to read aloud in front of a group, even those with not much speaking experience. It just goes to show what a friendly bunch of people you have gathered here.

Don’t forget about the next reading session tomorrow - or possibly today depending where you live! In your time zone it should be at 2020-06-07T13:00:00Z

EDIT - I’m working but will try and join you if I can.

I would humbly request the very first chapter Eyebrows pp.16-17, I remember (struggling with) those the most.

Hmm, the local time thing didn’t work in the quoted text. Have removed it to avoid any confusion.

Thank you for organizing this @Micki, hope to see you pop in if you can! I really appreciated your reading last time.

I am happy to stumble through whatever half chapter anyone doesn’t want to read

I totally thought this was yesterday and was sad I couldn’t join, but I can today, yay!

I’d like to do part of the fingernails chapter if nobody else chose it already :slightly_smiling_face:

I’d like to do the chapter on Poop colour (pp 23-26).

I haven’t had a chance to practice but if I’m still awake I’ll try to read something. I escaped from Melbourne! Am over halfway home.

Edit: I’ve had a quick look at insect bites so could do part of that one.
