く instead of に after na-adj stem

First example sentence for お願いします：

神様、お願いします！日本語が上手くなりたいんです。

I’m probably wrong, but shouldn’t it be 上手になりたいんです。
If it was i-adjective - then yes, い would change to く and it would be like 強くなりたいんです。
But I’ve always thougth that for na-adjectives it should be に + なる like 元気になりたいんです。

So, either I’m missing somethig (which is most likely) or it’s a typo (unlikely, but still possible).

That’s うまい turned to うまく

There’s 上手じょうず but also 上手うまい
