Discussion Guidelines

Spoiler Courtesy

Please follow these rules to avoid inadvertent ネタバレ. If you’re unsure whether something should have a spoiler tag, err on the side of using one.

  1. Any potential spoiler for the current week’s reading need only be covered by a spoiler tag. Predictions and conjecture made by somebody who has not read ahead still falls into this category.
  2. Any potential spoilers for external sources need to be covered by a spoiler tag and include a label (outside of the spoiler tag) of what might be spoiled. These include but are not limited to: other book club picks, other books, games, movies, anime, etc. I recommend also tagging the severity of the spoiler (for example, I may still look at minor spoilers for something that I don’t intend to read soon).
  3. Any information from later in the book than the current week’s reading (including trigger warnings that haven’t yet manifested) needs to be hidden by spoiler tags and labeled as coming from later sections.
Instructions for Spoiler Tags

Click the cog above the text box and use either the “Hide Details” or “Blur Spoiler” options. The text which says “This text will be hidden” should be replaced with what you are wishing to write. In the case of “Hide Details”, the section in the brackets that is labelled “Summary” can be replaced with whatever you like also (i.e, [details=”Chapter 1, Pg. 1”]).

Hide Details results in the dropdown box like below:

Example

This is an example of the “Hide Details” option.

The “Blur Spoiler” option will simply blur the text it surrounds.

Solo… むらさき is probably dead, right? :upside_down_face:

That’s my expectation as well.

But who threw the stone? Was it 山名 who then quickly went back inside? And now he is trying to pull one of the men away from the group in order to kill him as well, I guess.

I’m just glad they got a chance to draw a bit before all hell breaks loose :smiling_face_with_tear: (haven’t read the book before, just assuming that that’s what going to happen).
Agree with the assumption for むらさき.
Not sure about the stone either, but definitely don’t think it’s from someone from outside/ that we haven’t met yet.

I bet we’re meant to think she’s dead, and she may really be dead, but dang I hope not. We need a dramatic confrontation between her and 深雪! I write and draw a bit myself and I think I need the plagiarist to face justice more than the murderer :joy:

My crazy theory for the person who threw the rock based on absolutely no evidence whatsoever, just my overactive imagination: the real 中島! Who wrote a message on the rock and threw it into the room! Which was then taken by fake 中島, unbeknownst to us! Don’t mind the plot holes, just step over them if you please…

You mean we might be deceived on the deception? And she might not be dead despite all this setup? :exploding_head:

I must confess this thought did cross my mind for a second  But I did not get as far as foreseeing a hidden message on the stone :+1:

Now that I come to think of it, the message probably says „Meet me at the barn after sunset. And bring somebody to assist you!“

Ok, it’s a stretch but hear me out  We need むらさき to get the conclusion to 深雪’s subplot, which was only just set up! Granted, there are other ways I can see it playing out, but my brain automatically wants the most dramatic possible conclusion!

LOL yes, genius!

Just finished chapter 11! (Totally on schedule shhhhhh)

I was curious about this one sentence, I’m not confident I understood it

Chapter 10 - Around 33%

This is the part where 深雪 is talking about her history with むらさき and just told them how she plagiarized her story. Every goes quiet and then it says (not dialogue): 「この少女に気付いたときの、七ツ谷むらさきの反応は、この話を納得させるものだった。」
The first two parts I assume is something like “Her (むらさき) reaction from the time when she realized this girl〜” I guess it’s that last part I don’t get. I thought the 話 was referring to the current conversation, but maybe it means the manga’s story.

Sentence breakdown

この少女に気付いたとき - The time when she noticed the girl

の、- connector („the reaction at the time when she noticed…“)

七ツ谷むらさきの反応は、- the teacher’s reaction

この話を - this story

納得させる - „make comprehend / agree“ („comprehend / agree“ in causative)

ものだった。- was.

In better English: The teacher’s reaction at the time when she noticed the girl made us all comprehend / agree to the story.

A bit freer: Seeing the teacher’s reaction when she noticed the girl, we all came to the understanding that this story was true.

OHHHHHH, that makes perfect sense. They’re talking about when she noticed her at the lodge. I didn’t think about that. Thank you!

I just reached this chapter and trying to catch up with the group.

I think Murasaki is dead, and fake Nakajima knows it’s going to be discovered soon. So he threw the rock to make people think that the criminal is after them, and when they find Murasaki, they would think, “Oh no! The criminal did it!” (and they won’t suspect the last person who was with Murasaki i.e. fake Nakajima)

Interesting how my reaction changed from “They all seem like lovely people, I don’t want any of them to die ” to “Heh I don’t mind them dying” by the time I reached this chapter.
