My Japanese is terrible so don’t listen to anything I have to say, but I suspect that the やさしい being used here is this one: 優しい.

Yeah, I’d go with kind or gentle. A (やさ)しい person is one who’s comfortable to be around

My Wanikani name is the Buddhist name I was given when I took the precepts.

Interesting note, Ishikawa prefectures mascot is a characterized daruma doll. The daruma doll is a characterization of Boddhidharma, the Indian who took Buddhism from India to China which became Chan Buddhism and then spread to Japan as Zen Buddhism. So, Ishikawa prefectures mascot is an Indian guy, and I love that.
