Your worst typos WaniKani has accepted

Ever since I read someone in here saying that you can just type whatever on longer words all my reviews look like this

Possible candidate to block? (This is actually the meaning of 転ぶ)

Mixed up closing as opening, but still was just “a bit off”. I assume this should not be accepted.

Canned Pear

I don’t even know why I answered this, I literally said ‘canned beer’ out loud when I typed it.

lol, reminds me of the girl that makes coffee dramatically and says

Caramel.

Cowfee.

Coconut. Am I crazy or does that make sense?

I mixed this up with 建前. I’m not even sure why this was accepted in the first place, since facade only refers to “faces” of buildings, and this word is specifically for people.

Facade also refers to a person face, it’s when you put up appearances, which is what 建前 is all about, “building” a front when you go in public. (You probably were joking and it went over my head)

Thanks for pointing this out! Since they share the same first kanji and are taught on the same level, I can see how these two words could be confused. I’ll add “boarding” to the block list for 搭載.

Sorry to drag up and old post

Is the Japanese term strictly about the front of building?

In English facade is used much more often to mean fake image presented by someone to hide or deflect from something

建前 is the more common meaning of facade, referring to a person’s fake public personality.

It looks like 顔面 refers to the overall idea of human faces, and since a facade is a very specific type of “face” I don’t think this typo really fits. Face and facade usually aren’t interchangeable when it comes to humans. You could replace “facade” with “public face” but you can’t usually replace “face” with “facade” e.g. “Wow your whole facade got sunburned!” With buildings they’re interchangeable, but like I said 顔面 is only for faces of people. It’s almost like Wanikani is conflating the two meanings of facade.

@Mods can you explain why facade is accepted for 顔面, as shown in this post?

Hi, it looks like it just scooted by the typo forgiveness system. No deeper reason. I’ll add it to the block list.

Aaahhh, I never noticed that it was close enough to be accepted as a typo! Thanks for adding it to the block list.

Not that far off, both are edible
