Already working on Level 6. Here’s a glimpse of what’s to come:
I think Wanikani should use your artworks in their lesson. They are amazing!!
Aww, thanks, friend.
That would be a dream come true if my doodles were to make it that far!
They do take a while to draw, despite looking so childish. lol ![]()
Dude… these are amazing!
And hilarious
and actually help! The Stool and Stand ones are a great help to see them in colour. I’m at lvl 2 and I pause and have to think really hard on what word they used for the radical.
Also the fact that you wrote out the nemonic into the art is genius, to better associate the 2.
I’m so happy you are levels ahead of me so I can benefit from your artwork.
Fantastic!! I’m a fan ![]()
Edit: I just finished reading through the whole thread to find out everything I could about this project and bookmark the levels, and I had a smile on my face THE WHOLE TIME.
They are so free and fun! | (• ◡ •) | (❍ᴥ❍ʋ)
Oh my gosh, thank you! It makes my heart happy to see that someone loves my doodles that much! And I’m so glad they’re helpful, too!
You seriously made my whole day with this. ![]()
I started drawing them out because I was struggling to remember some things and some of the mnemonics weren’t sticking in my head.
But yes, thank you for the sweet words, fellow Crabigator worshipper.

They are super helpful!
The site encourages you to attach a feeling toward the mnemonics because it helps, and some of these images are down right lol hilarious.
And the non funny ones are charming and illustrate the mnemonic so well, the colours, the details, everything.
I read that you are now using photoshop? Do you draw these using a mouse on a computer?
Aww, thank you so much!
I’m so glad you appreciate them!
I draw them using a digital tablet and a stylus. At first I just wanted to use MS Paint because I knew there were a lot to do and I didn’t want to get bogged up in too many details, but…I couldn’t help myself, so I switched to Photoshop just 'cause it looks better. ![]()

They look amazing in Photoshop. I read somewhere up there that you wanted to redo the old ones, but I think the digitalized edgy look gives them character, they look raw, and it’s also pretty neat to see how everything has evolved.
To be honest, when I saw the first couple of images about 2 hours ago I thought this was a feature on WaniKani.
Where, in this thread, people drew in their version of the mnemonics.
I assumed at the end I would be presented with a white box with my current level’s radicals etc available to choose from to add to the thread, so we could all share and maybe one image would stick. ![]()
So the rawness of the early images are whimsical, non threatening → very inviting.
I was thinking “OH this looks like fun! I’ll join in and scribble down some images too and have a laugh at myself.”
These are great! Very cute ![]()
@2ebecc4 - Aww, well thank you! I may just leave the old drawings how they are then. ![]()
I honestly wasn’t expecting such a kind and descriptive review of my doodles. That really means a lot. ![]()
Did you really think that? Nice! I think there actually is a thread where people are encouraged to add their own visuals of mnemonics. ![]()
I did, the system you created to have the kanji/radical in the upper left, the composition of the whole thing is simple, easy to understand - it’s brilliant. That’s why I thought it was something already implemented.
But when I kept seeing the same little dude with the crabigator hat and the images shared a similar (AWESOME) style I then realized it was 1 artist.
Your little stylized crabigator dude inspired me to doodle a little kanji dude too!
I tried to make her have no circles since Kanji doesn’t have any, that was the idea behind her.
Awww, I love her! I’m going to try to include her in my drawings! Very cute!
And yeah, my little dude with the hat is named Kani-kun. I drew him to look as agender and aracial as possible so anybody can see themselves in Kani-kun. (Though I noticed that I unintentionally gave him the asexual flag colors. lol)
Maybe your own creation can be Kanji-chan. ![]()
No way for real!?
That’d be so amazing!!! ![]()
Kanji-chan chilling with Kani-kun ![]()
She’s got a pretty chill feel to her in those scribbles, but feel free to draw her however or whatever, I don’t care have fun with it!
haha this is awesome!
Just a quick update. Still working on the Level 6 drawings. Almost finished drawing them all and then they’ll be at the coloring stage. Here’s another glimpse at what’s to come (all works in progress):
Well this should definitely help you remember the radicals/kanji! I know for me any time I spend time actually visualizing the mnemonics it sticks pretty well. Also for 鉄… the mnemonic for that one is… well, for those that don’t know, you’ll see when you get to level 10 ![]()
Hey, folks! It took me longer than I thought, but I finally finished the pics for Level 6!
The radicals I drew way back in December.
I hope you guys appreciate them! ![]()
Level 6 Radicals:
Level 6 Kanji:

*I included Kentucky because that’s the state I’m from. The land of KFC, horse racing, bourbon, and a really long cave. Also the setting of the Netflix show, The Queen’s Gambit!
Awesome, as always! Re-reading the mnemonics gives me nostalgia – I still remember when I learned about the angel tea ![]()
The script is updated to include level 6 ![]()
Wow these are awesome !! ![]()
@Sinyaven - Thanks so much!
And yeah, with the angel tea, I couldn’t resist referencing the Chad meme. ![]()
@pinemarten - Thanks a lot, my dude!
Those are very creative! ![]()
