So about reading materials for beginners, I found that Wikibooks has a lot of books in Japanese, and they are easily distinguished by school grade. Maybe someone will find it useful, too.

Personally I’m interested in history, so I’ll read that. It has a book for 6th grade, no hard kanji plus it has kana.
