I think audio actually helps you memorize. 
To quote myself from another topic.
I guess it depends where you are studying, but I donât use the audio as much as I just say the word/kanji out loud - it has the same effect (giving you aural input as well as visual).
You might want to listen to the audio when you learn a new vocab word to get the pitch accent right. But for reviewing, saying the vocab outloud definitely helps more than passively listening
