Where to engage with japanese natives or people with advanced japanese?

Tandem and HelloTalk are both popular apps for interacting with natives. On Tandem you talk with people one-on-one, HelloTalk is more like social media, where you make posts and get corrections. There’s also iTalki, where you can get private lessons.

If you go on a Japanese discord server dedicated to learning though primarily immersion, you’re likely to find a ranking system for their users. It’s not a guarantee, but the users at the highest rank are more likely to be advanced and probably disproportionately likely to live in Japan. Likewise those servers also tend to have Japanese natives.

Aye thank you! I do use HelloTalk from time to time, but the conversations are always a bit weird. I do make posts sometimes. Ill try Tandem!

If you live in a major population centre, there may be events where you can meet Japanese people. Making a friend in real life is tricky, but can be very beneficial.

I found mine on a dating site and he’s rubbish at teaching me Japanese but we are having a kid together this year so something must have gone right
