What's a funny mnemonic you've made for yourself?

Sometimes WaniKani mnemonics just don’t hit for you and you make up your own (at least this happens for me) do you have any you like a lot?

Personally for me とり = 鳥(bird) has the mnemocic in a bad Brittish accent “Oi! That bird’s a tory!”

and もり=森(Forest) has the mnemonic “The Wrestler Takeshi Morishima isn’t active anymore, he went into the forest to retire”

Feel free to share your own!

For the kanji 督 (direct, level 29), the reading is とく. I have this:

You talk to yourself a lot when you work. Unfortunately, the guy who directs you doesn’t like that. Everytime you say something, he comes over to you and says, “とく?” in his weird accent. “Do I hear とく? No とく for you.”

For the kanji https://www.wanikani.com/vocabulary/己 , the reading is おのれ. My mnemonic is this:

What do I need to 計算? The time of the “Last plane out of Sydney” of course. (May only work if you’re Australian)

命 (めい) = mei the odds be ever in your favour

I’ve got different one for とり - Thorin (leader of the dwarf group in Hobbit). For the bird kanji the mnemonic is based on the great eagles saving Thorin (and the rest of the group of course).

I just think of yakitori, delicious! (grilled chicken)

As for funny mnemonics. I don’t go to deep into that stuff. But this is one I like:

I always kept switching these two. Is it kono, or noko?
好む (to like): このむ
残す (to leave behind): のこす

From early on, my favourite Japanese word has to be 九つ (nine things) ここのつ. 好む shares the same kono order, so that must be the one I like!

LOL, that’s mean. Poor bird. :joy: I bet your correct answer percentage is 100%, though.

For whatever reason, most of my DIY mnemonics turn out to be too vulgar to post here. Maybe even all of them.

But they’re usually effective.

This has happened for me too, so you’re not alone lmao

In Batman Forever (uhh, spoilers I guess) when the bad guys attack the circus (where the clowns live), their leader is Two-Face. When he escapes he waves bye.

This is how I remember 倍 (double) / ばい .

I also remember the kanji reading for 妹 (which I used to occasionally write as めい) by thinking of Little My from the Moomins, but that’s just common sense given that she looks a bit like the jet radical.

Oh I love the Little My one! Very childhood

外交 is the kanji for Diplomacy

The random thing that stuck in my head when saying the reading was “Geico” so i thought up the mnemonic “Geico has great diplomacy” like the little green lizard is a rep at the UN or something hahhaa

For the Kanji 坂, meaning slope with reading さか, I remember it by thinking about that one clickbait soccer thumbnail with the massive slope in the middle of the field. Not sure if that technically counts though because its the same mnemonic they give (soccer) but it’s adding onto it
