Finished this week in one sitting. It’s nearly just one long monologue. But we at least learned some new information in the process.
Luckily, I never stumbled in a comparable room during my time in 新宿
First, we learned that 石川 did not make it. It makes total sense, that 木崎 threatened him with 西村 and he thought that would be a way to get out of it safely.
Second, as expected, they were there to take the blame. At least it was only a backup plan and not the main intention for them to take the blame. It also makes a lot of sense to have a backup of people you can throw to the wolves if shit hits the fan.
Third, we learned the objectives for the next few chapters. Stealing from 3 different people, all while they should ideally not realize something was stolen. Getting the phone to the target person and getting the 封筒 from the guy carrying a 拳銃 seem like the hardest part of the jobs. I’m really interested in how the pickpocketing the next few weeks will go down.
The story of the French nobles was honestly dragging on for too long in this chapter, though. He could have kept the story much shorter while still having the impact that he wanted. I was seriously considering splitting the week’s reading in two, just because I got kinda bored by his story.
I’m a little surprised that threatening him with the kid and mother actually worked. I mean, he clearly likes the kid, but that he likes him enough to get into bed with 木崎 was a little surprising for me.
Looking forward to how the next weeks develop. I’m a little surprised that there’s so little book left. Only ~50 pages to wrap everything up feels a bit short.
I gotta say it’s always nice to get the run down from you guys, kind of seals the story in my head (okay, I think I got it right). 木崎 is definitely in his own fantasy world..
I think the most difficult part in those tasks will be to pull out some hair with the root without being noticed by the targetted person. I wonder how he will manage to do that.
Oh right, totally forgot about that part.
Though, while reading I thought why not simply use fallen out hair. I mean we all loose hair pretty regularly. Shouldn’t be different from being pulled out.
I fell a bit behind with holidays and such. Just finished this chapter, and wow did it drag on (in my opinion). But glad it’s done. Now I’m only one week behind
OK finally moved over my misplaced comment to where it belongs (that is, chapter 12 ):
I don’t have the book with me right now, but basically the idea of あいつ is that 木崎 says that there will be some people (mass media and such) who will start to have thoughts about the events, and then he is basically quoting their ideas and what they think about him, and in this quoted thioughts he is referring to himself (!) as あいつ. That’s what was the hardest to understand for me. I don’t remember the exact dialogue off of the top of my head (the gist being that some will see through the events but will get afraid that he is also going after them, and thus they won’t say anything, I think), but if this is not enough of a hint, then I can answer more specific questions next week.
