Okay, this is my first post - or better reply - here in the forum, so please go easy on me guys. I’m still kind of figuring out how this all works (still need to fill my profile on top of that xD)…but the race seemed so much fun that I needed to join. I hope we can boost eachothers motivation when times may get rough.
No need to be nervous. Welcome to the community!
People are pretty supportive around here, so don’t hesitate to ask if you need anything like information, inspiration or resources.
Welcome! Happy to see so many people at level 5 in our group - keeping my fingers crossed that we will all see each other at level 30 (and have a good time along the way)!
Forgot to add my last level up but now im level 14!
My days per level are slowly going down so ill hopefully get to a decent level by the end of the year
The quality of your Zen will get tested when you do reviews really really fast and then suddenly a key gets stuck on an old keyboard but you press enter before you realize and a radical like 本 is now in Guru instead of being burned and you’re totally not mad about it because it really was just a typo of sorts and won’t be a leech anyway but still, man, I could’ve had the whole level burned and now it’ll take months again until that’s accomplished and …
Thanks for the warm welcome! I was lurking around the forum for a while - kind of hesitant. But actually everyone seemed to be really nice - and so you are I guess! I hope I can be of help in the future, too!
Thank you - happy, I’ve made the move to jump into the race! I’m excited to see how far we may will come until we reach our finishline. I’m still working my way through Level 6 (still a Wanikani Newbie) but hope too level up soon and keep up my current pace to get closer to our goal! Let’s get it!
I finally got to level 4! it took 18 days but i also did reviews every single day and a steady pace of 5 lessons a day, balanced with full time work, freelance work, and my Japanese class. This is such a cool tool!!
Congrets! Taking in account the commitments you mentioned it sometimes can be quite hard to keep up a steady study routine, so give yourself a pat on the shoulder! And I highly aggree: After a few Levels I think Wanikani ist really great! I always feel quite motivated by the tool itself cause i want to see those little turtles getting closer to beeing burned.
Bit hit or miss in today’s writing practice but I feel individual lines or radicals are getting half decent. Straight lines are still the hardest thing - you can’t see how many tries it took to produce all this
Burn reviews are now a regularity and won’t stop anytime soon so I’ll do myself the favour and take this level reeeeallly slowly … but steadily! Another mistake I’ve made in the past: not doing any lessons at all anymore and losing interest / motivation and before I knew it i didn’t even do reviews anymore either. I’m trying to keep up my daily streak, which currently is unusally long for me! Coming up to 200 days!
Feel you! For me the most difficult part is getting the proportions of the radicals to each other right in one go…How do you do your writing practice by the way? On a tablet or something? As for me this is even more difficult than doing the writing by hand - though I really love my kuru toga pencil - in japanese staionary I trust
Proportions, flow, composition, straight lines, the right amount of curve … oh, and learning the reading and meaning as well! There’s a lot to it …
Yeah, I have a graphics tablet that I like to use, because it let’s me CTRL + Z to my heart’s content and retry the same thing over and over again without wasting paper. I do have a real soft brush pen as well, though, and the results on a piece of paper a way nicer I think. Partly also because I’m not yet very used to using the graphics tablet pen.
I see! Nice way of reducing the paper-pile of shame, that’s for sure! I probably wouldn’t be able to get accustomed to a tablet pen (I tried once but got so frustrated as time went by…) Great job sticking to it and improving you writing!
Report of the day : Had to catch up on reviews. Made something like 170 today.
As i fucked up a bit the pace of my lessons at the end of last level, i caught up a bit too on them! From 160-ish 3 days ago to less than 100 atm. I’ll really start the new radicals and kanjis in like 2 or 3 days i guess!
Do your vocabulary lessons every day.
Well, technically you can use reordering script to push at least radicals to the top, but I agree that vocabulary items are sneaky and require learning every day.
