I did 10 new lessons today (kanji from lvl 5) and none had any audio.

later edit: now i see the upload was postponed for later today

That’s not び at the beginning to my ears.

If anything, it sounds as if the audio has been clipped off too much at the beginning for it to be clear.

Kanji do not have audio. Only vocab do.

Yeah, that’s obviously not “Kouichi” with two letters swapped. :stuck_out_tongue:

Does anyone else get a clipped playback? Just very slightly clipped at the beginning… for example きゅうし sounds as it should at first but if I replay it, it’s clipped to something that sounds like ゆうし (excuse my whole lack of writing ability!! Hopefully someone knows what I mean).

New guy is aggressive lol I’m scared.

Unfortunately, the update broke a script I’m using, Wanikani Review Audio Tweak 2, which allows to play audio after a meaning review if the reading review was completed first. A similar Audio Tweak 3 is also broken. Now if I have the script enabled I’m completely unable to look at “more info” during a review, because it immediately skips to the next word after an answer, even when the answer is wrong. I don’t hear any audio either, despite having autoplay enabled.

Looks like this script got broken once before, when Wanikani changed the URL for the audio, so I’m hoping this can be fixed with just a small edit to the script code. Could you please tell me the current URL for the audio, @anon20839864 ? (The old URL was https://cdn.wanikani.com/subjects/audio/)

I’m also “summoning” the authors of the two Audio Tweak scripts, to let them know that their scripts are broken: @seanblue and @purajunyakara

I love how you all have decided that Wikipedia knows pitch accent better than the actual native Japanese speaker that recorded the audio.

I mean, come on. Pitch accent varies quite a lot. It’s fine.

Thanks! I tried replacing the URL with https://cdn.wanikani.com/audios/ but it still doesn’t work. Some additional code changes must be needed but I know nothing about programming, so it’s beyond my ability

Needs a pop filter perhaps? Yeah I’ve done some vocal work too, hubby has a recording studio in the basement.

Omg. I hope they provide an option to switch back to the old audio. I can’t stand the new ones. The voice is nice enough but he says everything with so much force that it is deeply unpleasant to listen to. Like listening to someone talk where every word is followed by an exclamation point. Sooo aggressive. Cat! Young leaves! Suicide! I do WK to relax and that tone is the opposite of relaxing. I can’t have the volume on now without physically cringing.

No one decided anything, I just noticed that the audio on Wikipedia , the old wanikani audio and the pitch pattern script all seem to match, while the new one doesn’t.
Besides, the audio on Wikipedia is obviously sourced from a Japanese learning material.

Also, the example in question is a pair of homonyms that differ only based on the pitch accent, which makes it a lot more relevant, I think.
Of course it varies a lot, but we’re looking for a standard pattern to lean on I guess.
