Hello again, my durtles! 
For a while now we’ve been working hard to record, edit, and prepare brand new audio for all of the vocabulary words on WaniKani. Well it’s done and we’re going to start rolling it out on the site for everyone to hear.
On Monday July 15, 2019 we will be updating the item pages with the new audio.
This update will not include Lessons and Reviews!
If all goes well on the item pages we’ll do another update to bring the audio to Lessons and Reviews.
The update is live! 
All of the audio on item pages has now been updated with the new male voice actor. If you come across any issues, please let me know here or via email: hello@wanikani.com.

Is the plan for a setting to choose between male and female audio or can we play both at the same time? Asking about both items pages and lessons/reviews.

We’re currently only replacing the existing audio with new (male) audio files. Multiple audio files are something we’re working toward, but we’re not there yet.

I can see this being further developed like GPS systems where you can choose various celebrity voices, including Snoop Dogg and Arnold Schwarzenegger.

I always listen to the audio during reviews and lessons.
On that note, I would actually prefer a female voice. Don’t care much for the new male one, though.
