Has anyone else found themselves wishing WaniKani had a companion book to practice radicals and kanji? I know there are obviously a thousand books out there, but I would love to see a book that specifically aligns with WaniKani’s levels.
Rather than how most kanji books work, you could even incorporate SRS by putting different boxes under each radical/kanji so you can practice each one at the same time you practice online (example: when you unlock a new kanji, you practice it, then do box 1 in the book. Then, when it’s time for your next review, you go to your book and practice again, etc etc.).
Maybe someone has broached this topic before, but I would lvoe to have something physical to write in and act as a companion piece to practice while I’m on the train or in a park.
The Ringotan app has something similar to what you’re looking for (if you’re looking for writing practice). You can link it with WK using the api and it will have you start practicing the Kanji that as you unlock it in WK
I think the content revisions would make it a little hard to pull off (atleast in a consistent manner over a long period of time) but I would love something like that to give extra writing practice- as I find learning writing is really great for memorization and recollection. The complete lack of writing emphasis on WK has always been one of it’s shortcomings in my opinion (not to say radicals aren’t valid) and having an officially guided tool to bridge that gap would be appreciated.
Assuming it was reasonably priced I’d be willing to try it out at the very least, especially since a lot of other kanji practice workbooks I’ve experienced aren’t even close to as thurough as WK (one that I bought at Barnes and Noble only has about 400 and barely any applicative vocab, for example). Tofugu generally has such a precedent for high quality and fun info/presentation that I’d imagine it would appeal beyond those who use the WK website, too.
I’m sure the undertaking would be a hell of a process, but if it gives more learning options I’d be happy to see them give it a shot.
