By the way I just noticed that this volume is currently on discount on BookWalker: Only 225 Yen (+tax if you live in Japan), until 2021-01-07T14:59:00Z. Just in case somebody is still considering joining in
Happy New Year everybody! Although not too many of you checked the poll in the home thread (yet?!), I decided to not let that demotivate me for the time being

I’m reading along
I have finished this part
I’m still reading the book but I haven’t reached this part yet
Sorry! Life got in the way in November and December and I stopped reading most of my book club books, including this. I’m going to try to read volume 4 over the weekend so I can be back on track for volume 5.
I’m still lagging behind. I was middle of Volume 3, now I am middle of volume 4. So I have kept the same pace, but not caught up =p
All I need is one good day to catch up, and Fruits Basket is on high priority after Chi (which is much easier). Just haven’t had the time yet. I voted on continue, but not on when (since I am behind. I don’t mind if you continue without a break. One chapter more or less doesn’t affect my speed) . I will follow when I can, hopefully soon! =D
I have now reached volume 5!
Just one volume behind now
I’ll try read more tomorrow!
In the back of Volume 4 they talk about a CD drama (now long since discontinued )
Does anyone know where to even start looking for it?
It’s an original story, so curious about it.
Haha you will overtake me in the end I’m only halfway through volume 5 right now
I must confess I’m getting a bit tired of the whole thing right now… It feels somehow so repetitive. Hattori is sad again because he lost his love, Shigure tries to escape from his job again, Yuki and Kyo are fighting again, Tooru is naive and friendly again (sigh). It was ok-ish before, but vol. 5 really feels like the drag. Or maybe I am not getting a whole lot of stuff?
Anyways, what if we grant ourselves a one-week break between volumes so that you can catch up without getting too exhausted, and I can also catch up?
In other words, let’s start with volume 6 on February 20th, 2021. I will set up the new home thread soon.
Yeah, it does drag out a bit at times. I do look forward to 5 though cause I love the tiger <3 )
February 20th sounds good. I should easily be done by then! =D (have more time right now. Well, by saying that do I curse myself to not find time at all?! XD )
I think that’s just how the manga is and it most likely wont change much down the line.
Chapter-wise we’re almost at the end of season 1. I’ve watched the 2 seasons of the new Fruits Basket anime (w/ English subs) and I really like it and I am looking forward to the final season. It’s a great adaption.
While the story is progressing here and there, it’s mostly a lot of the same stuff, maybe a bit more calm later on. The third season should have more story unfolding.
Imo, the anime in general is a great show and much more enjoyable. Probably partly because the manga feels a bit dated and I don’t have to figure out what everyone’s saying. Because it takes less time watching an anime episode than reading the corresponding chapters everything’s more condensed the repetetive fights for example don’t feel as much as a drag.
I definitely wouldn’t recommend reading the manga after you watched the show unless it became one of your favorite shows.
