Right now I'm reading ISLAND, it has a fun feature
Yep I just realized it, there is a flow chart in the menu. I can see on which route I’m on and the dead ends (bad endings) I’ve had. You can also click anywhere and see how an overview of the scene at that point and click on it to go back there. Pretty cool, I hadn’t seen that before in a VN! (out of the small sample of 6 in total that I’ve played, counting this one)
That is very true, and it’d be nice if people manage to use some sort of sale for whatever we pick next. I mean I’m down to vote any time, just whatever feels like a good balance to others.
I don’t mind voting earlier either although I’d like a week or two notice ahead of time so people can nominate more stuff if they want to I will probably add one new nomination like usual
Yeah definitely reasonable. Let’s vote in 2 weeks if no one is unhappy about that? 2 weeks plus the time for the poll to finish isn’t terribly early, anyway.
Sounds good to me. We briefly talked about it at the end of the 9-nine club but did we want to discuss pacing for the next VN here too? I know with the picks that would take longer than the 22 weeks we put in the nomination that we’d have to read faster than 25k, but not sure if there is interest in reading more than 25k per week regardless of length? I wouldn’t mind an increase to like 30k/wk but I also don’t want to end up excluding people due to that, especially if everyone else is happy with the current pacing structure.
I think it’s a good idea but also something that’ll be more fruitful when we have the VN picked, probably? I mean people who feel strongly about what they can/want to handle are welcome to chime in of course and that might inform their choices too I suppose, but yeah. I’m fine with a little more, personally.
Yeah, that’s fair. In the nomination post we include the estimated time to finish the VN based off of the current pacing which is why I wanted to ask but I don’t mind waiting until after a VN has won and ask everyone who plans on reading it what they think

Summary
The classic visual novel from AQUAPLUS that launched one of Japan’s most beloved franchises.
WHITE ALBUM is a story of love in many forms.
Touya Fujii is an ordinary college student but for one thing:
His connection to the popular singer Yuki Morikawa.
That popular singer, you see, is his girlfriend…
and the more popular she gets, the less time
the two can spend together.
Will they stay a couple, or will their ways part?
As winter falls and the air grows colder,
the two lay down new tracks in the album of their love…
This album will be as white as snow, and as poignant.
This is a classic VN that has almost a cult following in Japan. White Album 2 is the more popular of the two games (and the two are mostly unrelated outside of themes), but this game was very beloved back then. Since they recently released an HD port to PC, I think its a good opportunity to check out the game.
Pros and Cons for the Book Club
Pros
Fully voiced outside of the MC
Can texthook
Music themes for people into that
Cons
It appears to be a lot more character focused than “plot” focused - could be a negative for some people?
Only on PC and maybe ps3 (not sure if its possible to still get it on ps3)
While this is an HD port, the original came out in the 90s so it could potentially feel outdated in some ways
I just saw 終のステラ is releasing on steam next week. It’s one of our nominations and it was previously only on dlsite & dmm. Figured I’d mention it in case it being on steam helps anybody out. Stella of The End on Steam
Oh nice, I hope you like it whenever you get around to reading it! I’ve been loving the game so far and the language is surprisingly simple. One of the easier VNs I’ve read.
It’s been working fine every day for the past few months.
Usuallty start up my VN, and search in Textractor for the last sentences that was copied in Texthooker (which is the same as on screen), it finds the whole sentence in several Hooks, I choose a hook that doesn’t have too many weird characters and go on playing.
Today, it doesn’t want to work. Textractor only has pieces of text, it can match the ending of the sentences but not the whole sentence or anything that has the beginning, like this:
I have restarted my PC and everything but it’s in the same state. Tried to play anyway to see if it resolves itself but it doesn’t get better with time. Anybody has experienced that before / an idea for a fix?
Are all of the hooks like that? If some of the other hooks have the full sentence but a lot of garbage text mixed in, you might have to use the regex filter to filter out the garbage text so it’ll capture just the sentence.
If all the hooks are incomplete, you could try changing the text speed. Sometimes the text speed needs to be set to instant for the hook to capture everything.
If none of that works, you can try the “search for hooks” button and type in the full sentence to see if it populates a new hook for you.
If none of the default hooks work, usually I have a lot more luck when I manually search sentences that aren’t dialogue; for some reason text starting with 「 has always been hard to hook in my experience. I pick any narration sentence that looks easy and I input the first few words (never the complete sentence), and usually I get a working hook that way. I’ve had more luck with the start of a sentence than the end so I just default to that.
Good to know yeah with this VN the default hooks are very bad = none of them show the actual text, and I haven’t managed to make good use of the “save hooks” feature, so I always just paste the whole sentence and it usually works great. I noticed that too that it matters to put the beginning. It was the first time that it didn’t work today with the beginning of the sentence!
