I am so so so happy to see all of the changes related to the “expectation”, “assumption”, “hypothesis” words after it being brought up in this thread. I appreciate that each of these vocab words now has an additional sentence explaining its nuance, providing a way for us to compare and contrast these similar words and learn their usage.

Me too. I wish I could push them all back to “just unlocked” state and then relearn them again.

If you have already Burned any of these Vocabs, then you can, actually, by using the Resurrect button on each item’s info page (located at the bottom of each page).

This essentially ‘unburns’ (they call it ‘resurrect’) the item, which effecitively returns it precisely to the “just unlocked” state. There only two differences are that:

  1. Unburning an item does not erase its statistics in terms of Combined Answered Correct, Meaning Answered Correct, and Reading Answered Correct on the item’s info page. In other words, you don’t lose any previous information about how accurate you were on the item. (This is different than if you were to do a Level Reset, for instance, which deletes all information about your previous reviews on the item.)
  2. You can easily ‘undo’ a Resurrection, because when you press the Resurrect button, it automatically turns into a Burn button, which if pressed will Re-Burn the item again. And then it’ll be a Resurrect button again, and you can ‘undo’ that Re-Burn. This is why I prefer to call it ‘Unburn’ rather than ‘Resurrect’, because it makes it more obvious that you can ‘undo’ a Burn, and then ‘undo’ that by pressing the ‘Burn’ button again. Burn, Unburn, Burn, Unburn, as much as you want, no crazy side-effects like a Level Reset has.

And it’s item-specific, so you can pick and choose which items to Unburn. The only requirement is that you must have already Burned the item the normal way, via correct SRS reviews, before the Resurrect button is available. But once it’s available for that item, you can Unburn/re-burn as much as you like for that specific item.

I actually just did this with all of these Expectation/Prediction/etc. items that I had already burned.

[Remember, it’s a completely reversible operation. If at some future point you decide, “Ah! It was a mistake to Unburn this one! Now I have to review it all the way back to Enlightened and then Burned again!” just remember, “Wait! No! Acutally, I can just Re-Burn it, removing it from any future reviews, with a single click!” < click > “And, it’s gone!” ]

An additional note about resurrecting and retiring: there is a cooldown, so you cannot do the same operation rapidly in succession (that is, if you unburn an item, then retire it, you have to wait a certain amount of time before you can unburn it again). I don’t remember off the top of my head what the cooldown is, but I think it might be at least 1 day.

There may have been in the past, but there isn’t anymore. I just checked by Re-burning 期待 and then Un-burning it, over and over about three times, just to be sure.

I’m late to this thread but OH MY GOD I’ve been struggling with them for over a year. 思想 and 予想 are my arch nemeses :melting_face: I’m so glad to see them changed
