That movie poster seems to be in Norwegian.
Swedish has Ä and Ö while Norwegian has Æ and Ø.

Oh and Swedish is supposed to be my third language but I had no idea about farts.

Some Japan-Nordic news:

Shonen Knife:

About a month ago, the band Shonen Knife recently kicked off their European tour in Tampere, and since then they’ve toured through ten cities in Finland, Denmark, Sweden and Norway.

I caught their Stockholm show, and honestly didn’t know what to expect, and I think a decent number of the people in the audience were actually there for the warm-up band, but the energy in the room once Shonen Knife got going was incredible.

If you’re reading this, you are either psychic or too late to catch them here in the Nordics. However, they still have concerts lined up in Germany, France and the UK:

There are also some other Japanese performers visiting Sweden soon, for example at NärCon and KodachiCon. I recommend checking out the Swedish-Japanese Performers Association for more info.

Osaka World Expo:

His Majesty King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden the Duke of Jämtland recently visited the World Expo in Osaka.

The World Expo will also soon be receiving a visit from the King of Finland, Käärijä:

Further details from the Finnish embassy on Instagram

Eurovision:

Speaking of things having to do with music, Sweden, Finland and Instagram, I recently wrote a post in Japanese about Swedish Eurovision entries.

In some sense it hasn’t aged too well - we all know that finishing 4th is the greatest shame known to man - but I’m mostly happy with how it turned out.
I did completely wreck my sleep schedule in order to write it, though, and still found several typos the next day.

Onigiri in Stockholm:

For those of you in Stockholm who have had a big hole in your stomachs ever since that onigiri stall near Vasaparken shut down, there’s a new musubi maker in town. She usually makes guest appearances at various flea markets or cafés, so the best way to know where to find her is by checking social media.

Hilma af Klint exhibition in Tokyo:

There is currently an ongoing exhibition of Hilma af Klint paintings at the National Museum of Modern Art. This is generating quite a lot of articles and videos about af Klint in Japanese, which I’ve found rather interesting.

If you find it difficult to understand the speaker, try switching to YouTube’s auto-dubbing feature to learn all about Hurricane Flint (182-1944).

Celebrating midsommar in Japan:

I’m aware of a few upcoming midsommar celebrations in Japan; if you know any more, I’d love to know about them!

Tobetsu Sweden Marathon:

They haven’t updated their website yet, but I have it on authority that this year’s 当別スウェーデンマラソン will be held on October 19th.

New Rose of Versailles movie:

There’s a new movie adaptation of The Rose of Versailles. I choose to count this as Nordic news because we all know that Axel von Fersen is the true main character of that franchise, much as he is the main character of history in general.

I’m going to Iceland in a month and I’m wondering if anyone here has any tips for what kind of food I should try while I’m there.

Few disclaimers in advance:

  1. Sorry if this is the wrong thread and Iceland is only thought of as Scandinavian, even though it actually isn’t really part of Scandinavia (you know like Denmark).
  2. (Sorry to anyone from Denmark, I’m just trying to fit in and the big peninsula guys seem just a little bit cooler.)
  3. I already know about those cool hotdogs.

That’s fine; they’re still represented by the “vik” part of the name, just as Finland … well, actually, I don’t see Finland anywhere in the name, but that’s just because they’re shy.

Jaaa! En av oss! En av oss!

Then I have nothing more to teach you.

I did take a semester of Icelandic, during which I learned the word kjötsúpa (“meat soup”), but I have no idea how it tastes. Looking at pictures, it would appear to be a soup with meat in it, so if that appeals to you, you could order that.

I mean I could work with that. I’ve also heard about fermented shark, which if it’s anything like that bleached fish from Norway, I would prefer to avoid.

Yeah, I’d really like to try hákarl (I like surströmming, and apparently they aren’t so different), but from what I’ve read it seems Greenland shark fishing is pretty unsustainable. I don’t know a whole lot about it, though, so I’d recommend looking into that if you’re thinking of trying it.
