The Scandinavikanians

I guess I should just wave and say “Hi, I’m from Sweden too!”

I stumbled onto this on YT. Old school Swedish comedy.

Galenskaparna och farbror Frej

Tbf, this parody of the ridiculous simplicity and questionable suitability of some children’s programming back then is still pretty darn fully.

A bit late but I did Duolingo Swedish and Norwegian and they were great for giving you a good foundation in the languages. As far as I know, there’s no Duolingo course for Icelandic, so you may have to look into something like Memrise.

I’m not sure this is the best place to ask, but I thought I’d try in case someone have been in a similar situation as I. Does anyone know of good self study material for learning Swedish? A friend’s husband is a brit and he’s planing to dive into more intensive study. He does have some rudiments down, but I don’t know exactly how much. I know he understands a lot of what he hears, but not sure beyond that.

Maybe the Assimil method ? I’ve used it for Danish, Spanish, Italian and Polish, with good results. Not so good results with Japanese though :joy:

Is it just CDs or also a book? The description seems to suggest there is a book. And it leaves little to no information on how the whole thing works.

I listened to the audio sample and they do have a native(s) reading it, but it sounds so weird to me. :joy: The flow of conversation is so off, but I get why. Has to be a lot slower for someone learning, so they can understand. :hear_no_evil: xD

It’s with a book too

Thanks.

Not sure this will work for him though, because at least their website doesn’t seem to have Swedish from English. (If the ENG->SWE book does exist (/can be bought form them), then their product search is broken.) But I might look into it myself for a fourth language.

It’s happening tonight! The final battle! XD Let the best country win! ^>^

Sorry for not linking your own countries’ links, as I’m having a hard time at it, but I’m making it a Wiki (to let you do the work! ). :+1:

The date for this year’s Tōbetsu Sweden Marathon (in Tōbetsu, about an hour’s train ride from Sapporo) has been set for October 20th, with registration opening on May 17th.
(I believe you need a Japanese address to sign up on RUNNET. I normally contact the organizers directly to register.)

Time to start booking hotels while prices are still low
