The New Dashboard is Here

Overall I think the new dashboard looks very nice and including things like the heatmap which people used to rely on addons for is a nice win!

A couple of small pieces of feedback:

  1. It would be nice if the forecast was a 7 days counter as when I had a busier review schedule it helped with week planning and even now my review counts are way down it’s still nice to see a repeatable unit

I did some HTML tweaking and it doesn’t look that bad at the default compact size using --spacing-xxtight instead of --spacing-xtight for the padding as is currently done:

And then you can see when people put it beside taller widgets, there’s a bunch of blank space.

  1. It would also be nice if the ordering of views in the heatmap was reordered. Currently for me it’s 2023, 2024, last 12 months, 2025. I think it would make sense if the year based views were grouped together so you can jump year to year more easily.

Okay, that’s good, but some people may also want to see their upcoming daily forecast. So one fix would be to make it so the upcoming days and the hourly forecast for a given day are toggled back and forth. Right now, when I click on Monday’s forecast, it reverts back to the weekly forecast every time I return to the dashboard after going somewhere else to do a review or whatever.

With a toggle, I can continue to see my hourly forecast and simply toggle it back to daily whenever I want to see that info.

Thanks for all your hardwork!!!

It’s too big on mobile, let us adjust the scale of font or the entire layout and it’s probably a good upgrade.

Only thing I don’t like other than scale is what’s mentioned above about things now often being 2 steps. Like before at bedtime I could click today and tomorrow to see how many reviews were coming up at 11pm and midnight, now it’s go to today, then back, then go to tomorrow. The accordion was better.

Yeah, and I have to click view all 3 times, it’s not possible to see all items in a single view, the way it was before, it seems :frowning:

I really love the new art! I wonder about the lore behind it! It seems to be kind of religious? And there is one kappa with claws.

I liked the old progress meter!
I’m also confused about the accuracy graph. Why is she angry if yours is high?

lot of people gave this feedback (including me), Koichi replied that they will try to find a solution (hopefully they find it as of right now it makes it very hard to track items, this and the hover change)

Technically it should be between 80 an 90 to get the best out of learning an retention in the long run, altough in my opinion this graph doesn’t take into account that too many lessons also means too many reviews, so even if you have a high percentage you could be doing the right thing, it depends everyone is a diferent case, don’t pay too much attention to that kind of details

Really happy with this update so far! Seems like a lot of work went into it and I’m glad to finally see where it all went. I’m also happy to see Koichi take the community along so well!

I only have two things to throw in that I haven’t seen mentioned yet:

  • I was unable to scroll while trying to drag’n’drop widgets on mobile (Firefox with WK PWA)
  • Forum widget: I would like if I could click anywhere in it or at least a larger area instead of just the button (I’m running user scripts which hopefully didn’t cause this?)

We go into this optimal Learning Zone here! Usually it’s ideal to be around 85 - 95% so you can challenge yourself if you’re always above 95, but no worries if you do go above it.

Search results are displayed as widgets laid out in a row, making it very difficult for the eyeball to navigate. Can we have an option to display the results as a table or vertical list?

I’ve attached two images of what it looks like on my smartphone.

Everyone is (rightfully) looking at and playing with the dashboard itself, but I’ve been taking a look at the non-dashboard specific updates here and I have some feedback on them if I may.

On the profile tab, there seems to be a text glitch on the Wall of Shame, centering the name of the Kanji / Vocab word. If not a glitch, I apologize for the bluntness but I think it looks kind of bad

I also don’t particularly love that the apprentice/guru/etc. tiers are no longer color coded like they once were, it makes this section look very plain(?) or less personable

I also think that the organization on the levels/radicals/kani/vocab lists took a step down in convenience and aesthetic

In the past, each button was a little bigger, a uniform size, fully colored to it’s respective item, and every row housed (no more than) 10 items. All of that has been altered and I think it is worse for it. Visually more scattered, and (for someone like me who uses these pages for making physical flashcards/notes) it’s organization only serves to make it less streamlined.

I do like that the locked/in lesson/in review color distinction is more visually different though (compared to the slightly muted colors and little red new icon in the corner)

The Vocab also not being in a uniform list like before I think looks worse and is less functional. It was nice having every item have it’s own little row for visualizing scope of what’s available and for combing through just by scrolling downward.

Maybe I’m alone on all these but just going from my past experiences I’m not particularly enthusiastic about adapting to these new changes compared to the consideration given to the dashboard

The customizable heights is severely needed. As I also hate how much space is being wasted on my screen.
I agree that having to scroll though recent mistakes takes unneeded effort. There was no issue with the last version of being able to see all my recent mistakes at a glance.

Edit: I just found the option to display recent mistakes in a similar way to the previous wanikani version.

Absolutely love the new dashboard and the additional customization options. Especially excited for the Study Streak and Total days studied, but all the values in those two widgets are definitely incorrect for me. My current best streak is almost a year longer than I’ve been on WaniKani lol.

Critical update: After refreshing the page a few times it looks accurate. Huzzah!

With all these (harsh criticism) feedbacks, I thought it would be nice to add Widgets ideas:

  • A counter of Badges earned in the community (like a Pokedex Badge inventory)
  • A way to put a level goals + a deadline, with the illustration of it + countdown getting increasingly dramatic as deadline approaches. (maybe adding other features such as calculating how much days per level would be needed to achieve goal)
  • A kana / hiragana learning tool! Maybe making it funny like a minigame

Nice work, it’s really great!! I’m sad to be losing my beloved scripts but I’m sure there is going to be lots of new widgets in no time  Here’s what mine looks like for now:

My only complain so far is the lack of customization for the heat bar (1st thing to fix: let me start my week on a Monday ): I’d like to be able to see reviews and lessons separately, tweak what range of number means what color, etc…
But anyway, awesome stuff, thank you :sparkling_heart:
