three volumes of クレヨンしんちゃん - these might be hard for beginners in that “everything’s contracted and casual” sort of way but if you want a simple story about a kid’s daily life that’s got like, pretty much the opposite vibe of Yotsuba, then you could surely do much worse.
(I notice there’s also very deep discounts on more volumes of that as well, as in like, 29 yen per volume deep)

Just gonna shamelessly plug the Crayon Shin Chan book club here We read volume 1 together, so there’s a discussion thread and a vocab list. I also added vocab for volume 2 to the spreadsheet when I read it by myself.

I agree with your estimation of the difficulty. There are a bunch of contractions, but you have to get used to them at some point if you want to read manga, so you might as well learn them with Shin Chan The vocabulary is often pretty simple because it’s slice-of-life.
