[Detective Conan Conan Edogawa GIF - Detective Conan Conan Edogawa Case Closed -...] What’s this? Do you love buying books? Of course!! Do you read the books you buy? Ehhmm… Well, you see, I was going to get around to those eventually… Just as soon as I place a new CDJapan order :face_with_peeking_eye: This is the 積読 (tsundoku) reading thread, where we read books from our stockpile and cheer each other on! The Rules Post in this thread when you finish reading a book that was purchased or acquired before January 1st, 2026. That’s it! Is this a challenge thread? Only if you want it to be! Feel free to create your own challenge in the comments below based on your goals and the state of your book collection. Or simply post here for some community support around whittling down that to-read pile. It’s up to you! And now… Happy reading!

[image] Akashelia: Had to zoom out quite a lot so that the first pile is not cut on the picture haha. Then the second pile is the same but I removed the things that I have read this year, and put them in the third pile. Wow, I like the visualization! And it shows just how much progress you’ve made, too.

Well, it’s unceremonious, but I have all my raw notes on what I read since whenever the last time I posted was, in rough order of whenever I happened to get around to writing them. This covers quite a change in my status quo, but I’ve sure been reading a lot lately thanks to the new commute and perhaps now that I’ve finally closed the book on all these I can be said to be fully acclimated to my new everyday. These cannot be said to be 積読貸本漫画集ロケットマン他水木しげる漫画大全集ハルタ１３６号ミザーナフォールズ

It’s still 2026 so it counts!

Ayara012’s :dragon: Book Hoard :treasure_chest: I was directed to this post from over in the Readathon, so hello fellow 積読者! I already tend to post my incremental progress over in Bunpro’s Book Collector Rehab, so I think my posts here will be more summary-style. Maybe per-week or per-month progress? To set the stage of my current shelves, this is my catalogue on Librarything. The “read” tag refers specifically to whether I have read this physical hard copy that is on my shelf, rather than whether I have read the story itself in general. (i.e. I have read the entirety of BLEACH before in English, but I haven’t yet read the Japanese copies that I’ve bought.) For those who don’t want to fuss with the link…that’s a current ratio of 111 read to 749 owned. A few are guidebooks/informational/art-book sorts, however, so I’m not too concerned with reading those from cover to cover. (Also I have absolutely no idea if some of these were purchased before or after January 1st, so I’m simply starting from my current collection. Not including the books that are literally in the mail and/or waiting on my doorstep right now. They’re treats for the readathon, those don’t count, right?) I will specify that my goal on these sorts of threads isn’t to not buy books, but rather to make sure that I’m actually reading, too. …My reading pace is just much slower than my purchasing pace  So as a home page starting point, some summative (hoard) statistics: Book Type Read / Owned Manga (Japanese) 85 / 688 Novel (Japanese) 0 / 13 Novel (English) 26 / 42 111 / 743 (+6 informational) Books in the mail/not included in the above stats: アラルエン戦記 (set), ハンガーゲーム (set), and 蟲師特別編日蝕む翳 Books read (so far) during September: 5! (Two volumes of とんがり帽子のアトリエ and 3 volumes of 地縛少年花子くん)

Welcome to the thread! [image] Ayara012: I will specify that my goal on these sorts of threads isn’t to not buy books, but rather to make sure that I’m actually reading, too. Yeah I also don’t like these threads to get too aggressive about shaming people for buying books. What I’m trying to do is find a middle ground where I’m actually buying books in order to read them, and not buying books as the hobby of buying books. [image] Ayara012: Novel (Japanese) 0 / 13 :eyes: Better get to reading some of those novels, though!

We have a running joke about book jail over in the rehab thread, but of course folks mean it in good fun. I am a truly terrible influence, though  I might wind up chickening out if I’m tired after my Japanese class, but I’m hooooping to maybe do a little bit of novel reading for the readathon? I don’t want to ONLY do so, because all the ones I have are a little bit of a jump up (according to natively) from my manga and I don’t want to burn myself out, but it seems like a good opportunity to give it a try.

Aw yes, you got this!! Reading novels is super tiring at first if you haven’t done it but just keep going and you’ll get there!

We say that we’re all in book jail, but it’s a jail without doors or walls with full access to our money and credit cards.

[image] soggyboy: Yeah I also don’t like these threads to get too aggressive about shaming people for buying books. I’m not buying a bunch of manga that I may never get around to reading. I’m buying manga to financially support the mangaka. And if I ever get around to reading their manga, I’ll know if I made the right choice.
