Level 31 cleared!
Finally learning 掃 and 除. I’ve encountered 掃除する so many times (especially in Genki exercises) but the reading never sticks, I know that it will now that I have it from WK
Also enjoyed learning 看板 as I’m using it daily at work, not with the same meaning that WK teaches though! (Just literally as an “overview board” of tasks)
The second Kanji sounds like exception. It’s usually 除.
Yes WK agrees with you, it’s the one being taught. That surprised me, I don’t know yet the other words using this reading!
Yayyy
Did a lot of extra vocab lessons today to get down to that 0/0, but they all went very smoothly. I’ve noticed that vocab lessons are MUCH easier now that I’ve gotten to level 13, than it was in the very early levels. I think it’s because now I have some foundation/exposure to a lot of basic words and how words are formed/used, that I didn’t before. In the early levels I was basically starting from scratch because I barely knew any words at all. Now, most of the new words I learn on WK I’ve either heard before, or are constructed similarly to other words I’ve previously learned.
I couldn’t get down to 0/0 during level 11 but now I did it!
Level 12: 0/0 achieved ![]()
This time I needed the help of reorder omega to complete the vocab before doing all the kanji, I find it much doable that way now. I don’t know what changed, but it’s better now! I see now my first burn items approaching by the end of July -hype-
Also kept my streak going yay me~

Level 39. Slacked off with the reviews but kept studying japanese every day. Many kanji in these levels are pretty specific, such as mostly being used to spell names and such. I don’t feel that guilty not keeping the same pace studying kanji and instead focusing on reading more. That being said there are still a lot of useful kanji left to learn so I’m back to leveling up ![]()
Level 10. At long last I am here again, having entirely lost my streak after level 6 haha. At the time I was thinking “this is easy peasy” and then whammo…

The first <20 levels is a good time to test around how many lessons/ day you wanna do. How many apprentice items is too many for you to fit into your IRL schedule and life events. It’s great to just try stuff out!
We all go through this trial-and-error period I think. Some just apply some arbitrary metric decided from previous users (never have more than 100 apprentice items) and that works for many. But, you can tweak things to your hearts content. I you like to do lessons irregularly? No need to do it daily. Just complete them across the level, before moving on. Just as good.
My own lessons heatmap is a Swiss cheese! XD

Level 38 – streak 38/38.
Was a bit of a struggle to get to this point during this level. I had to go through a several dozens of lessons in the last few days because I purposely didn’t do many of them a week before due to travel reasons. My future self won’t be pleased with the upcoming 1-2 weeks and the review piles but I’d rather get to 0/0 before a level up instead of having to start a next level with additional 100 items.
I think you made the smarter choice. I also think you don’t have to worry all that much about a short spurt toward 0/0 on this level. That has little effect on things. What does have effect, is constantly sprinting as it’s cumulative. It can make the last 10-20 levels pretty crazy when it comes to reviews/day. So, yeah, I just wanna say congrats on another great streak! ![]()
Thank you! ![]()
That was my logic too – a few days of bigger review piles until a week or so passes when most of them are guru-ed, and it’s smooth sailing again for quite a while as long as I keep a consistent speed that’s not maximum speed.
The main reason, tough, was that I like being able to do Kanji and the corresponding vocabulary lessons close to each other. Had I spread those remaining lessons throughout level 39, I wouldn’t have gotten to the new vocabulary in level 39 as quickly as I would like.
Nowadays, I do the vocabulary lessons for the handful of Kanji I guru with each step directly one day after unlocking them by using the Lesson Filter script, so that the few Kanji in question get reinforced better until the next few Kanji are guru-ed. Rinse and repeat.
First time here, though I’ve gotten a 0/0 every level. I’m obviously not super deep yet, but here is my 0/0 on level 6:
I’ll see y’all next week on level 7. I’m sure this will get harder to maintain once I hit the point where I start getting enlightened and burn reviews. I’m going to savour it while it lasts ![]()
