Running a bit behind on the TJPW translations, but it comes at a good time to break up the shupro posts so the thread won’t lock you out, rodan, haha!
I finally finished the translation for the April 5 Philadelphia show! These America shows are always a bit of an oddity (more English-speaking wrestlers, and more of the normal roster attempting to speak English), so it was probably about half translating and half transcribing.
First up was Daisy Monkey vs Yuki Aino and Zara Zakher! Another fun Daisy Monkey vs a team of power wrestlers match! I thought this was a nice opener, though I was really tired watching it at like 8am
.
Daisy Monkey’s comments:
Suzume: (in English) “Hello, Philadelphia!”
Endo: “Oh, English? Hello!”
Suzume: “And we won.”
Endo: “We won!”
Suzume: “After finally winning the belts, our first step was America. For us, that first step of winning the belts and the first step of this new start are really really huge, and since by some chance we got to fight Yuki-san, I knew we couldn’t lose.”
Endo: “Thank you.”
Suzume: “Zara is also really, really powerful. We’re still really really inexperienced as champions; we know that more than anyone, and I think we got beaten up pretty bad, but I hope people from all over the world keep supporting us from here.”
Endo: “I’m glad that we were able to show everyone these (belts) in the first match.”
Suzume: “Yes! I’m happy that we could show them to people in Japan and also overseas.”
Endo: “I’m happy.”
Suzume: “It was fun, huh?”
Endo: “Yes!”
Suzume: “Yuki’s passion and Zara’s passion made me forget how cold Philadelphia is.”
Endo: “It’s not cold!”
I wasn’t quite sure what exactly this ね! was doing, haha.
Suzume: “Yeah, it’s just right!”
Endo: “It was hot!”
Suzume: “It was hot!”
Yuki and Zara’s comments were in English!
Yuki: “Thank you, America! Philadelphia! Philly? Philly, thank you!”
Zara: “Thank you, Philly! We’re so happy to be here. I’m so happy to tag with this amazing woman right here.”
Yuki: “Yeah, so good!”
Zara: “We did good. We didn’t win, but, y’know, there’s always next time. Hopefully we tag again.”
Yuki: “Yes! Yes, tag again! And I’ll make America hot again!”
Zara: “Make it hot, we can make it hot!”
After that was Billie Starkz vs Hyper Misao, which ended up being a rather unusual match for TJPW because Athena showed up (she has an ongoing story with Billie in ROH) and did a lot of the kind of interference you don’t often see in TJPW. I hope Athena gets the chance to wrestle in TJPW for real at some point!
Athena and Billie’s comments were in English:
Billie: “That was one hell of a superhero! I feel like she was more of a supervillain; she offered me a present and just kicked me in the stomach like it’s nothing? You got exactly what you were asking for.”
Athena: (still blinded and groping blindly) “Billie? Billie!”
Billie: “Boss, boss! I’m here! I’m here!”
Athena: “My eyes, Billie!”
Billie: “I know you can’t see!” (pointing at Athena) “What hero does this? You don’t BLIND a minion overlord!”
Athena: (crying) “I’m a minion overlord!”
Billie: “Mm-hmm, I know.”
Athena: “You beat her good, didn’t you Billie?”
Billie: “I did, I won!”
Athena: “You beat her so good.”
Billie: “I hit two swantons, that’s all it took.”
Athena: “Two!”
Billie: “TWO. I’ll do three if I have to!”
Athena: “She could’ve done three swantons!”
Billie: “This isn’t the last you’ll be seeing of me, TJPW!”
Athena: “Nope!”
Billie: “I’ll be back for more. And a superhero ain’t gonna stop me.”
Athena: “Yeah! Yeah, no one’s gonna stop you! No one’s gonna stop her! Because she’s the minion! She’s the minion, that’s right!”
Billie: “…The camera’s not over there, boss—Okay, bye guys!”
Misao’s comments were very short:
Misao: “Ah, Big Kids, I’m sorry. I lost. I’m a loser. But I will come back to America again in the future and protect love and peace in America, so please wait for me! Thank you!”
Next up, Kamiyu and Viva Van got another chance to tag again! And Trish Adora was back and tagging with Raku this time. An interesting match with a bunch of very different types of wrestlers in it.
All the comments were in English! First up, Kamiyu and Viva’s:
VIVA: “I’m so happy for you.”
Kamifuku: “Me too!”
VIVA: “You did amazing tonight, we got a win, and you know where you’re off to next? Vietnam Pro Wrestling, for that women’s title. The very first woman to be crowned. I believe that you’ll win it.”
Kamifuku: “I’ll do my best! I’m so happy, because now she’s my best friend in Asia, and the sexiest Asian wrestler I know.”
VIVA: “Yes, and together, we are the ABGs.”
Kamifuku: “ABGs! Bye-bye!”
Raku and Trish (Oyasumi Infantry?)'s comments were so cute:
Raku: “I’m tired…”
Adora: “Aw,” (patting Raku on the head) “Okay, tired… I feel like I may have let you down. I’m sorry.”
Raku: “No…”
Adora: “Nex time, Trish Adora and Raku, we will do better. We will win!”
Raku: “Thank you.”
Adora: “Thank you!”
Raku: “Trish? Oyasumi Express?”
Adora: (nodding) “Oyasumi…”
Raku: “Happy!”
Adora: “Yeah, yes!” (gesturing between herself and Raku) “Oyasumi Express! Good night!”
Raku: “Tomorrow is fun!”
Adora: “Yes, such a good week! Maybe a weekend. Tokyo Joshi Pro Wrestling, such a good show.” (gesturing between herself and Raku) “So happy to work with you!”
Raku: “Ah, thank you! I’m happy, too!”
Adora: “Yes, so happy!”
Raku: “Next time, Trish tag.” (laughing)
Adora: “Yes, next time, good team!”
Raku: “Next time tag! Thank you!”
Both: “Bye!”
The next match was supposed to be a Pompaler tag match, but Max The Impaler was unable to make it due to being sick with covid, so their new tag partner Aja filled in for them instead! I suppose it makes sense that Aja would team with a regular tag partner of Raku’s, too. They faced Mizuki and VertVixen, and unfortunately for American Pom fans, it was not to be Pom’s day.
Vixen + Rabbit’s comments were in English:
Both: “Yay!”
Mizuki: “We are win!”
Vixen: “Yes, we are the winners!”
Mizuki: “Winners!”
Vixen: “We are the winners!”
Mizuki: “Good team!”
Vixen: “Good team. Good team! We—whew, Aja, whoa, Aja’s so strong! No, no, no more Aja, but we did it! We did it! We took down Aja, we took down Pom, Together—”
Mizuki: “Together!”
Vixen: “Together! Vixen + Rabbit!”
Mizuki: “Rabbit!”
Aja Pomg’s comments:
I was a bit confused by the start of this because shupro had Pom’s line transcribed as “くちゅ…”, but Aja seemed to hear it as 靴, which is also close to how it sounded to me (and would make situational sense). Not knowing how to translate くちゅ, I just went with “shoes”
. I was also a bit confused by Aja’s line, “靴どうした、最後も。途中で投げられて.”
Pom: (spread-eagled with her shoes in her hands) “Shoes…”
Aja: “What happened to your shoes, at the end? They got thrown during the match.”
Pom: “(indecipherable)”
Aja: “I didn’t get any of that, but she was very popular. It’s amazing, all the ‘Pom’ chants. Incredible. You were way more popular than Mizuki, even. Amazing.”
Pom: “Huh? Really?”
I wasn’t quite sure of the subject of this sentence: “マックス(・ジ・インペイラー)に自慢できるよ.”
Aja: “You can brag to Max (The Impaler).”
Pom: “Aja-san came today, and having her was very reassuring, but I couldn’t show her that I could win, so I’ll show that next time.”
Aja: “Next time, let’s team up with Max as a trio. Then there’s no way we’ll lose.”
Pom: “Huh? We won’t lose!”
I think I mostly got this: “まあ道具になるけどね。ほら、ぽむ投げ選手権。俺も登場したんで、ぽむを道具としてみんな使うよ。そりゃしょうがねえよ。マックスと2人でぽむを道具として使って、それで勝とう.”
Aja: “Well, you’ll become an implement. Look, the Pom Throwing Championship. With me here, too, everyone can use Pom as an implement. That’s just how it’s going to be. Max and I will use Pom as an implement, and then get the win.”
Pom: “If that’s the way to win, then I guess it can’t be helped…”
Aja: “Aja, Pom, and Max.”
Pom: “Scary. But hey, I’ll be standing alongside them.”
Aja: “Yes, Pom’s at the center.”
Pom: “Pom’s at the center! Pom’s the center of the world!” (rolling out of frame)
The “いってこい!” in this confused me at first, but when I watched the actual clip, it appears that Aja was… basically playing fetch with her?
Aja: “…I see. Thank you for your hard work! It’s fun to wrestle in the U.S. Pom! Go get it!” (she throws Pom’s shoe)
After that was Shoko vs Rhio, which was fun! The match sort of disappeared into the blur of that weekend for me, so I don’t remember much about it now…
Shoko’s comments:
Nakajima: “Thank you so much! (Rhio) is EVE’s super ace.”
“I had a match in America today, and Rhio feels quite a bit like a friend, so I’ve been looking forward to it ever since the match was set. It was fun. So exciting.” (in English, mostly) “She is very, very strong! But, Big Kaiju was more strong today!” (in Japanese) “Thank you very much. I’ll do my best tomorrow at GCW as well, and I’m going to work even harder in Japan!”
Rhio’s comments were in English:
Rhio: “Shoko Nakajima. You really are a Big Kaiju. And I respect you for that. You may be small, but you pack weight. You took me to my absolute limits; I passed that. Don’t make a mistake. This isn’t the end of me and you. We WILL fight again, trust me.”
And finally, the main event! This was a fun match for me because I could gladly root for Miyu and Itoh and boo Daydream. I always worry about about One To Million racking up too many losses and breaking up… But that was not to be the case today! They finally got their first win as a team in an official TJPW show in America! Though in classic Itoh and Miyu fashion, their interactions afterward were not without some amount of arguing…
The stream cut out the post-match of this one, which was disappointing, but when I asked about it on twitter, GCW’s production account replied to me and said that it would be uploaded, and sure enough, a clip appeared on the official TJPW account not long after.
There’s a bit of Japanese in this, and also some nearly inaudible English that I sort of just tried my best with, but it’s 99% perfectly understandable English, so it wasn’t too bad to transcribe:
Yamashita: “We won today! One To Million! Did you enjoy it, everyone?” (loud “TJP” chants from the audience) “Thank you, thank you, thank you! Also, we enjoy it, too. Thank you! Itoh, take it.”
Itoh: “Hello everyone!” (audience cheers) “Yay! So, tomorrow… Tomorrow will be TJPW vs GCW. I’m a GCW member! Hi everyone! Hi! I am GCW member! GCW! GCW!” (she starts a “GCW” chant, and Yamashita steals the mic from her)
Yamashita: “TJP! TJP! TJP!”
Yamashita starts a “TJP” chant, and Itoh steals the mic back and counters with a “GCW” chant, then Yamashita steals it back and continues chanting “TJP”. Itoh shoves her, and Yamashita shoves back. They start to fight, but break apart quickly. Then Yamashita approaches Itoh and offers her a handshake. Itoh takes her hand, and they embrace. When they separate, Itoh raises her middle finger at Yamashita, and Yamashita points her fist at her.
Yamashita: “Okay, okay. Today, all members, come out!” (in Japanese) “Please come, everyone!” (all members come out)
Itoh: “Okay, thank you! Thank you for coming today! Thank you! LET’S FUCKING GO!”
Itoh and Miyu’s comments equaled probably half of the actual translation workload…
Itoh: “We won!”
Yamashita: “Our win-loss record in the U.S., we hadn’t won a single match, had we?”
Itoh: “Is that right?”
Yamashita: “Yes.”
Itoh: “I’m glad that we won today. It was fun.”
Yamashita: “Yes, it was. We had a TJPW show today, and so many people came to see us. It was super fun. We beat Daydream.”
This was a bit tricky: “これは私たちいかないといけないかもしれない.”
Itoh: “We might have to do it.”
Yamashita: “Do what?”
Itoh: “I think the tag belts would look really good on us.”
Yamashita: “Oh!”
Itoh: “We beat Daydream.”
I wasn’t quite sure about the translation for this:
山下 そうだね。これはもうタイミング見ていくしかない。
Yamashita: “Yes. We just have to watch for the right time.”
Itoh: “We have to keep an eye on it.”
Yamashita: “Daisy Monkey might have momentum after having won the belts recently.”
Itoh: “We’ve proven again that we’re strong!”
This part had a lot of bits that I wasn’t quite sure about, and also was extremely chaotic, haha, because they were talking over each other a lot:
山下 たまに会うぐらいがちょうどいいね、私たち。
Yamashita: “I think meeting every once in a while is just right for us.”
Itoh: “What? Don’t say that.”
Yamashita: “I think it’s just right for us to meet every once in a while. We can do it. I’m sure. We can go at any time, but the timing is important. I think we need to do it at a time when everyone is most excited about it.”
Itoh: (interrupting her) “Yes!”
Yamashita: “What? Are you mad?”
Itoh: “…Can you stop saying that it’s better for us to stay away from each other? You don’t have to say that it would go better if we were apart!”
Yamashita: “I get it! Do you think it’s a bad thing to be apart? I don’t love you any less when we’re apart, so it’s just better for us to be apart.”
Itoh: “No! Your way of saying it is…”
Yamashita: (starts talking at the same time) “Even if we’re apart, we love each other, we like each other!”
Itoh: “The way you just said it, it sounds like if we’re always teaming up, we’re going to lose. Like we’re weak. Like if we’re just partnering occasionally, we can’t confirm our mutual love…”
Yamashita: (interrupting) “No, our—”
Itoh: (interrupting) “You’re taking advantage of me! You’re taking me for granted! I hate you!”
Yamashita: “HUH?”
Itoh: “I hate you! I hate you! Tomorrow, for real.”
Yamashita: “I’ll do it, too. Since I’m TJP. What’s with the ‘I’m GCW Team!’ stuff! You’re TJP, aren’t you?”
Itoh: (in English) “I’m also a GCW member! Fuck you!”
Yamashita: “HUH?”
Daydream’s comments were in English! (mostly). They were also… uh… well, I’ll just say that the official account saved me from having to go through the trouble of figuring out how to translate some of this:
Rika: “No!”
Miu: “No!”
Rika: “No! Gomen, sorry! One To Million! NO! Bad, bad, bad!”
Miu: “Bad, bad, bad!”
Rika: “Bad monster!”
Miu: “No monster!”
Rika: “No monsters! Fu—(audio is bleeped out)!”
Miu: (in Japanese) “AH! No, no, no! (inaudible)”
Rika: “(audio is bleeped out)”
Miu: (in Japanese) “(inaudible) Rika-san, you can’t say that!"
I wasn’t quite sure about Miu’s “なんでもないです!”
"It doesn’t matter!”
Rika: “(audio is bleeped out)”
Miu: “AHH! …Sorry! Bye-bye…”
Comments like this really put into perspective all of the times where I’m like “should I add swear words to this translation to make it suit the vibes better, or would that be going overboard?”
Next up: TJPW vs GCW, which I haven’t looked at the comments of yet, but I think even more are likely in English.
