Super excited to start this, is it cool if I add definitions ahead of schedule, or should I wait until the stated week?
Sounds fun. I have heard of this series, but never got around to it, so why not try it in Japanese.
Looking forward to it! I loved the anime. My first untranslated manga.
Hi all. Excited to start. I’ve never even been in a English language book club so this will be a new experience!
Hey, maybe a dumb question, but how do you guys buy books on Amazon JP? It seems I can’t log in from my account, do I need to make an account with a fake Japanese address or something? Hoping to join you guys
I’d like to join if I have the time! I’ve never read anything in Japanese before though so I’m a bit worried.
Count me in. I hope to finish Genki 1 until than…just started today also hope to manage to download the book from Bookwalker until than…I find it very tricky to buy when the site is in Japanese
Once you get to the cart or profile there’s an option of switching to English, it’s only the main site (and book listings and the like) that is in Japanese
Wow! ありがとうございます
Guys…I have a silly question. I am at level 2 now and… I’ m feeling a little bit as a fraud. So many words in the vocabulary that almost always I have to look up after the reading or the meaning. The radicals go very smooth, the kanji the same, but vocabulary and katakana…This language really makes me feel pretty stupid.
But I hooe ti manage until the Book Club starts in May
New to WK, and about halfway through Genki 1. Just purchased, looking forward to the book club!
I made an account with a shipping address, there are companies that provide one for free. I found the explanation here on the forum somewhere.
I only purchase digital, send it to kindle pc app and convert to pdf with calibre.
Although recently I have had to use a vpn with a Japanese ip address or it wouldn’t let me purchase something.
Kinokuniya is a good way to get books in the US. They have physical stores all over the place in addition to the online store. https://usa.kinokuniya.com/
I had the same problem as @melodelfe.
How do you send it to your own address if you use a Japanese shipping address?
I was planning on getting the e-book
Thank you! I love your profile picture btw
I use tenso.com when I want actual goods. The account setup is all free and they give you a Japanese shipping address which you can use to set up your Amazon.co.jp account, etc. I use my tenso shipping address for all of my Amazon ebook purchases and have never had any problems.
You could add definitions if you want, but be sure to read the guidelines (in the first tab of the vocab sheet) before you do
This manga looks great! I’m really looking forward to this
I bought it on Kindle yesterday and read chapter 1 to get a feel for it.
Overall, I found it easier than Dragon Ball SD and 10 minutes biography. It also helps that the vocabulary seemed mostly “useful”. In the sense that is every day life situations. I also enjoyed the lighthearted humor!
The only small challenge is that it has casual language (like most mangas), which can be a little difficult in the beginning, but gets easier as you progress.
I think this is a great a pick for the club and for people who are on the fence about getting started reading, this seems like a great first book to get started.
