Personally, I’m more interested in the くノ一 series, but you should read whichever one catches your interest the most!

So, as it turns out, these have been free for the last month. I found out at the start of this month (near the end of the free period), and have a few days left in the free period. I’ve been pushing through trying to finish them in the free trial time. Two volumes of Tsubaki and three volumes of Kyouko.

Kyouko was written before Takagi, and I feel it shows. Tsubaki came out after Soredemo, and I feel it shows.

Kyouko, I’ve found to be “okay”, but I’m waiting to see where it goes from here. The recurring themes are: (marked as spoiler, although pretty much all chapter one material)

  1. Kyouko becomes emotional and bloodthirsty when she loses her ribbon, so her big brother goes out of his way to ensure that doesn’t happen. This results in everyone in school mistaking this as him having a “sister complex”. This includes the classmate he likes.

  2. Kyouko hides her feelings and is quick to anger, but losing her ribbon results in the opposite. Feels like tsundere taken to the extreme.

  3. Kyouko always ends up with her ribbon to come undone, at which point she relies on her brother to restore it.

Over on the Tsubaki side, there’s a story in the background, but it feels like it’s leaning more toward slice-of-life with a large cast. By the end of the first volume, I could just about recognize more individual characters than I can in Kyouko, Takagi, and Soredemo combined.

I still have misgivings about some of the outfit designs in Tsubaki, but the content so far has been on par with what we get from Takagi and Soredemo.

Kyouko completed with seven volumes. Tsubaki just had volume seven come out in April and is still ongoing.

hahaha neither of you help with the decision… but what maybe helps is that one is a complete series!!! that’s probably the place to start

You think I didn’t put in something to help?

In my defense, I’ve never claimed to be helpful.

you are actually both some of the most helpful people around … generally  I think many would agree…

The outfit designs are why I dropped the Tsubaki anime, despite the premise being really cute. Some of those girls look very young, and yet are basically just wearing wraps.

Find it interesting that so many people worry about what the characters wear  so far it hasn’t really bothered me…but I’ve heard this about many different series … things like they never change or their cloths are boring… for me just find it interesting…

I don’t think people are worried about the clothes being boring on this one…

Generally speaking, I don’t get too bothered by costuming choices unless the content is also questionable; but yeah, having seen some of the outfit choices in the Kunoichi series, I can definitely understand why it might be off-putting.

Hello everyone, and happy weekend! Whilst I could honestly still use some 催眠術 (why am I so awake at this hour!?), maybe a midnight snack of some 大福 will help me get some rest, eh?

Are you planning on reading with us this week?
  • I will be reading along!
  • I’ve already read it!
  • I will catch up later!
  • I won’t be reading (anymore)

Really looking forward to reach the rest of you, unfortunately this week I haven’t had much time to read Takagi-san because I’m moving to a new city for work. I have suspended the manga for the last two days, since I’m trying to end AoT vol. 1 before I move (tomorrow). Soon I’ll be back on it!

For real! Last week was Nishikata being gullible, but this one is all due to Takagi’s prediction. If she’s this smart as a middle schooler, it’s hard to believe she’s not a scientist or something when she grows up!

What I really loved was how

she really made him the onigiri to begin with either the night before got up early in the morning, but needed an opening and just waited for the right timing, she needed him to be hungry,…then the daifuku she just happened to get lucky (or somehow knew he had that same one) and prethought about what he would ask if she had a match…

this was perfect!!! and he is still clueless hahaha

This was a fun chapter. It looks like this chapter had a lot of ways to say that someone is hungry.

There are a couple of panels I think I was able to interpret, but I would like confirmation. On chapter page 2 of the 大福 chapter, 西片君 is thinking “まだ2限が終わったところだが…” I am interpreting it as “2nd period just ended… (it’s going to be a while before I can eat…)” Would this interpretation be correct? Is 限 a counter for class periods?

On chapter page 9, 高木さん says “西片に有利な勝負内容、西片ならこれ選ぶだろーなって思ってさ。” I feel like it is something like, “for a game with an advantage for Nishikata, I was thinking that Nishikata would probably choose this (question or game with this question).” Anyone mind deconstructing this sentence?
